We are deeply saddened to learn Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Our thoughts and well wishes for strength and healing are with the Biden family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
According to a statement released today by a family Spokesperson, President Biden’s diagnosis includes a Gleason score of 9–indicating a highly aggressive cancer.
The Gleason score is a tool doctors use to assess prostate cancer aggressiveness based on how abnormal the cells look under a microscope. A score of 9 is among the most severe, and Biden’s Spokesperson indicated that the cancer has metastasized to the bone.
This moment is a sobering reminder that prostate cancer does not discriminate. It can affect anyone.
Men–this is your call to action.
It's time to talk to your doctor about your risk for prostate cancer. If you haven’t scheduled your annual check-up this year, do it. Early detection through a simple PSA blood test can mean the difference between life and death. Don’t wait.
Be proactive. Prioritize your health for yourself, your family and for your future.
Click the link below and visit our Prostate Cancer Resource Center to learn more about the PSA screening test, get information about both early and advanced-stage diagnosis, and support options available for patients and caregivers.

📢 What imaging should you use in case of suspected metastases?
🎤 Insightful discussion by @NaounNatacha on refining imaging strategies for mCSPC and oligometastatic disease!
🔍 Key takeaways:
✅ Conventional imaging (CT/MRI + bone scan) is still used, but PSMA PET improves staging.
✅ PSMA PET shifts classification: 20% of high-volume disease (HVD) is reclassified as low-volume disease (LVD), and 30% of LVD is downstaged to non-metastatic disease.
✅ New drugs & definitions: ARPIs, RLT, PARPIs, and redefining disease burden.
✅ Challenges in imaging: cost, availability, sensitivity, and balancing treatment decision-making.
✅ Oligometastatic disease: MDT (metastasis-directed therapy) improves outcomes—trials like STOMP, ORIOLE, and GETUG-AFU are shaping the field!
✅ 2025 paradigm: Should we treat based on conventional imaging, or rely on next-gen imaging for low-burden mHSPC?

📢 PSA Relapse: When do you need to act?
@APCCC_Lugano @OncoAlert @ProfKHerrmann @stefanofanti4 @Silke_Gillessen @AOmlin
🔥 Masterful presentation by #JochenWalz on defining the optimal timing for intervention in PSA relapse!
🔑 Key takeaways:
✔ Biochemical recurrence (BCR) is a heterogeneous scenario—one size does not fit all!
✔ Before treatment, assess life expectancy and the potential for cancer progression.
✔ Active monitoring is reasonable for low-risk patients.
✔ Early salvage therapy offers the best outcomes.
✔ PET imaging refines patient selection for optimal treatment strategies.
