We LOST the December economy 👍✌️
But wait o! What’s the essence of overriding detty December?? Just about 10 months ago, we were busily defending the fact that it’s ours and can be sustained if we run things well! So all that work is now going to the shelves for what? Black star Christmas?? Black star Christmas?? By time we finish mention the word na we enter March saf!! What’s alll this?? Why do you make it sooo hard to support somethings! Must we always try to create new things?
Deputy CEO and CeO are fighting over letters in the media space
We have collapsed the December economy👍
One of the best initiatives by the previous government was Beyond the Return, which was designed to ensure continuity after the Year of Return. It was a project that was working, and the opportunity was there to build on its success.
All the Ministry of Tourism and the Ghana Tourism Authority had to do was expand the initiative, develop the right frameworks to generate more revenue, protect small businesses and tourist sites, and ensure we weren’t overpricing tourists or even locals.
Tourists, global stars, major events and the entire entertainment machinery were coming into the country in their numbers.
Imagine the bragging rights if the government had said, “We inherited the Year of Return, which was generating this amount of revenue. We developed a framework, built strategic partnerships and multiplied that figure by five.”
Beyond that, there was an opportunity to expand the initiative beyond nightlife and entertainment, creating more reasons for tourists to visit Ghana throughout the year. That way, the benefits would extend beyond a few peak periods and reach more businesses, communities and tourist destinations across the country.
This wasn’t a project that needed to be reinvented. It needed to be expanded, properly structured and sustained. The foundation was already there, the global attention was there, and the interest in Ghana was growing.
It really shouldn’t have been this difficult. So disappointing.
