Amazon finally announced a new Stargate series.
A lot of fans want no part of it.
Within an hour of the Jac Schaeffer news, replies filled up with #RIPStargate, #NotMyStargate, and threats to cancel Prime.
The reason is simple.
Fans spent the entire summer fighting to bring back Martin Gero’s canceled Stargate series.
That campaign passed 120,000 petition signatures.
Instead, Amazon started over with the creator of WandaVision.
“We did not #SaveStargate,” one fan wrote. “#RIPStargate.”
Nerdrotic had an even shorter reaction:
“DOA.”
Others are hammering Amazon for ignoring the existing fanbase after canceling Gero’s version over concerns it wouldn’t appeal broadly enough.
One fan summed up the problem:
Amazon may now have a new Stargate series in development while #SaveStargate is still going strong.
That could get awkward fast.

It’s almost like alienating a fanbase with ungodly goodwill was a bad business decision…. #Stargate

🚨 AMAZON, DON’T CLOSE THE GATE! 🚨
The proposed new Stargate series may have been cancelled, but Stargate is far from finished.
Wouldn’t it be something wonderful if we could have these four back: Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett, returning to the Stargate universe?
Imagine seeing these familiar faces back through the gate, alongside new characters and new stories. For longtime fans, it would be a truly special way to continue the legacy of Stargate.
Amazon MGM, you own the Stargate. Please give it another chance.
The fans are still here.
The love for this franchise is still here.
The gate should not stay closed.

Stargate is a broad church. So many different types of people enjoyed Stargate.
THATS ITS SUPERPOWER!
I wish people would understand this point. It catered to a part of scifi we don’t get anymore.
You had liberal and conservative minded folk enjoying this one thing together. Not that it matters but in 2026. It seems to matter to people.
So you have this cross generational IP of Stargate. With a locked in global fanbase across a diverse political and cultural spectrum.
The OG crew of Joe, Brad and Martin, and you threw that away Amazon MGM? wild. Absolutely wild move.
Will go down as a big L. Look at every other franchise. Look at the Gears discourse.
Stargate was so close to getting it right. And it drifted away.

Here's what Amazon got wrong.
Stargate wasn't a dead franchise.
It was a sleeping one.
Fans were already waiting.
All it needed was a green light.

Amazon wanted content.
Stargate was right there.
A proven universe.
A loyal fanbase.
Yet nothing crossed the event horizon.

Please #SaveStargate. The fans are waiting. We will keep waiting. It's been over 15 years... we can wait out executives. We have done it before; we will keep doing it. #GerosGate

How do you buy Stargate and not use Stargate?
Fans have been asking for years.
The demand never vanished.
The opportunity never vanished.
Only the action did.

#SaveStargate Are we asking for that much?
Fans aren't asking for the impossible.
We're asking for a future.
A plan.
A commitment to a beloved franchise.
It's time to dial the gate again.

Stargate isn't just another sci-fi show.
It's exploration, optimism, and teamwork.
It built a universe fans still discuss daily.
Most franchises would dream of that loyalty.

We will not go quietly. We care too much about our franchise. We care too much about the lore. Stargate is not just a show; it's an escape. We don't want #SaveStargate. WE NEED IT! Hence, we won't leave or stop caring and will NEVER ACCEPT a reboot!
