One year ago today, I drove away from a sure thing setup near home to take the chance at capturing the shot of a lifetime in Death Valley.

Another happy @_BoltHunter owner !
The bolt hunter works!!! Yes! 👏 There was only ONE cloud to ground strike unfortunately. That was too close for comfort and put me back in the car. 🤣 it was LOUD! ⚡️@lorigracewx Thank you!

I think this one from yesterday would’ve been my Grand Canyon retirement bolt had it happened at night!

This particular peak of the Eagle Tail mountains took some heat at that moment. N of Gila Bend early Thursday morning. Lots of challenges staying out of the rain, but still tons of fun with all the lightning as the storms gradually crawled through the warm, unstable air. #azwx

Caught these beauties last night as a storm rolled over The Mule Mountains near Bisbee Arizona. I almost blew out the bolts. 😅 This is a 15 second single exposure. #azwx

Nature is just awesome! Notice how this bolt almost perfectly contours the terrain features before slamming into the wall at the Grand Canyon.

Some of the best lightning I’ve ever seen as storms pushed off the Date Creek Mountains near Congress, Arizona last night.

Two bucket list shots in one tonight: lightning slicing through a rainbow while striking the peak of the Superstition Mountains. What a beautiful storm!!!

Lighting striking the Catalinas last night. Based on my position in Oro Valley and other photos I’ve seen, the bolt in the second image might be the one that sparked the fire, seen in the third image shot an hour or two later from Tucson. #azwx #stormhour #monsoon

I finally captured my first upward lightning ever on 8/5/2026 while shooting north from Nogales, approximately 30-40 miles away.! The one I posted yesterday happened a few seconds previously but was blown out. At left you see upward lightning from the KMSB radio tower in the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson, Arizona. In the center it happens again from a structure on the Smithsonian Observatory on top of Mt. Hopkins. I'm not sure if the strike on the right was a positive strike that temporarily reversed the polarity to cause this. Bucket list achieved in Arizona, not the Plains like I planned! #azwx #lightning
