The media's problem is that it's overrun by educated dopes who think a lot of things are interesting, but nothing is important.
"anymore"
He doesn't actually give any examples of Trump being funny (something ace editors @katiekings and @patrickhealynyt seem to have missed, though it's rather basic). The closest he comes is seeming to praise Trump for "Pocahontas" because "politicians are full of it"
wrote for @nytopinion about how Trump isn't funny anymore. he's been using a broad set of irony techniques to pierce the bubble of DC bullshit for a decade - and suddenly the fire went out 1/
I always love these "admit it" things when it's clearly a minority opinion. Most people I know are still mystified that people can watch 30 seconds of Trump without feeling revulsion. "Admit it, you're sexually attracted to lemurs. ADMIT IT."
The mindlessness is just astonishing to me, however often I see it. "Why aren't the people who say it's bad to be a bigot being canceled as much as the bigots are?"
Multitudes think like this, including the editors and reporters in charge of our political and opinion media.
Too many of us think the "post-truth era" refers to all the people who believe insane conspiracy theories, clearly false assertions, etc. But I think its worst among people who are basically of my cohort (I'm a late-middle-aged, educated white dude). NYT readers.
She's Poochie the Rockin' Dog from The Simpsons. Her animators tweaked her, oh, 8 percent or so, to make her more in-your-face, and boosted her "attitude" levels.
I hadn't looked at Snopes in a long while, but from what I see, they're doing a lot of this lately. There were published news reports, but because Snopes "couldn't confirm" them, it decided to baselessly cast doubt on them. I don't remember stuff like this under @brooklynmarie.
While attempting to sway voters ahead of the 2024 election, Biden is often repeating a years-old claim that Trump once called U.S. soldiers "suckers" and "losers."
There's no audio or video recording of the remark — Trump has denied saying it — though... snopes.com/news/2024/04/18/t…
The soldiers piece is an abomination. From what I can tell, the Atlantic hewed to basic, longstanding news standards. web.archive.org/web/20230401…
The Atlantic piece was written by the editor (@jeffreygoldberg, for whom, again, I have a lot of contempt, but not because he makes up sources). He quoted "multiple" senior-level officials. The story is solid. What the hell is this? I think Snopes deserves some close scrutiny.
