A Box Girder Bridge is a type of bridge where the main beams comprise girders in the shape of a hollow box. The box girder normally comprises either prestressed concrete, structural steel, or a composite of steel and reinforced concrete. The box is typically rectangular or trapezoidal in cross-section.
Construction of these bridges involves either in-situ casting or prefabricating the box girder sections before placing them with the help of cranes or launching gantries. This method is widely used due to its inherent strength, which allows for long spans and the ability to withstand torsional forces.
