Word of the day (again) is 'ipsedixitism': the dogmatic insistence that something is a 'fact' without providing any supporting evidence.

1. For months we’ve been trying to find figs & science behind Govt quarantine policy, both in March when we had no quarantine & now.
Basic Q; how many people do Govt estimate are arriving in UK w Covid19? No answer again today. Why?

The story we keep hearing is that millions of people suddenly and simultaneously lose their minds: crowding the beaches, packing the streets of Soho etc. But if lots of people do the same thing at the same time, it’s not a coincidence. It’s because of signals the government sends

I very much appreciate people being glad I’ve ‘recovered’ but I must warn you I’m way off the finished job! I hobble with a stick and only over a few metres, struggle with stairs, become breathless and dizzy and only have full sight in one eye and full hearing in one ear.

Bit of a downer, perhaps. But what is it about the phrase “global pandemic” that is hard to grasp?
If you travel to places with lots of other people, if you don’t keep your distance - you will help to sustain the virus.
We can all do our part to keep the most vulnerable safe.

I have a sense of grim foreboding about this. The government's releasing us from lockdown before it has the pandemic under control. If reopening schools etc proves disastrous, people won't accept a 2nd lockdown, as the govt has torched its credibility. Then we're completely stuck

In the absence of a Government commitment to do so, I promised to publish regular updates on regional R numbers. So here’s a table published today by @cmmid_lshtm. Not a great deal of “room for manoeuvre”, as the Chief Scientific Adviser told the @10DowningStreet daily briefing.

Two things are needed from today’s press briefing:
(1) clarification that only key workers should go out to work
(2) a financial package for self-employed, contractors & freelancers
Then everyone will be able to #StayAtHome, pull together & get this thing beaten. 👍

They just need to down tools. Everyone can make these moral choices. If you continue to do unnecessary work - you WILL cause deaths. If you stop - you have to trust that society won’t leave you destitute. Otherwise - what kind of a society do we live in?
