In this 2004 footage, UN Sec-Gen Kofi Annan admitted the UN's record on antisemitism fell short, calling the "Zionism is racism" resolution an "unfortunate decision." As António Guterres finishes his term, the next leader must restore the moral clarity shown by Annan.
Our party has zero tolerance for racism.
We welcome the announcement that the Liberal Democrats will not work with the Green Party nationally, and call on local government colleagues across the UK to show the same leadership to marginalise this fringe and extremist party.

Not releasing Marwan Barghouti was a mistake. If 500 other prisoners convicted of murder could be released, why not him? I know him very well and believe he can be an asset to peace.
At the same time, the Palestinian presidential race must be open to younger generations, not limited to the usual suspects. Palestinians deserve a genuine choice and a fair, open contest.

The antisemitism at this point is so just blatant and just so naked that anyone still denying it is unambiguously also an antisemite.
It is a scandal that once again, the Palestinian Authority has cancelled this November’s Palestinian legislative elections.
The Palestinian people deserve freedom, democracy and the power to shape their own destiny.
I received with profound shock and frustration the decision to cancel the legislative elections scheduled for 28 November 2026 and postpone them until 11 September 2027. I know that millions of Palestinians share this feeling, especially an entire generation that has waited twenty years for its first opportunity to choose its representatives and shape its future through the ballot box.
Setting a new date does not erase the disappointment or answer the most important questions: What guarantees that the obstacles will be overcome by next September? What practical plan and safeguards will prevent another postponement?
In my political assessment, efforts by a small number of leaders were the main driving force behind this decision, supported by certain factions, foremost among them the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. I hold those advocating this course politically responsible for pressuring the President to deny our people the opportunity to vote on the date established by presidential decree.
I cannot accept an agreement among a limited number of factions being presented as a comprehensive national consensus. Other factions, electoral lists and Palestinian voices remained committed to holding elections on schedule. They deserve to be heard. The lists that responded to the decree, prepared and collected citizens’ signatures—whether they had already registered or were preparing to do so—cannot be ignored. The national will cannot be reduced to the positions of those demanding postponement.
The lack of readiness of any faction must not suspend the rights of an entire people. We in Masar Jadid, alongside other new lists, demonstrated that preparation and participation are possible even with limited resources. The people alone have the right to grant or withhold their trust. No political meeting can replace their decision at the ballot box.
I call on President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an urgent meeting with representatives of the registered electoral lists, hear their objections and proposals directly, and discuss reconsidering the postponement. Dialogue must take place before decisions affecting everyone’s rights are finalized. It must include new political forces, young people and women who chose peaceful participation and believed in democratic change.
As President of Masar Jadid and head of its electoral list, I will continue, alongside my colleagues, to defend our people’s right to vote and renew democratic legitimacy through peaceful, political and legal means. We will not abandon our responsibility to the citizens who placed their trust in us, or to a generation that deserves a say in its own future.
Our people have the right to choose. Our young people have the right to shape their future.

Mamdani in New York and Polanski in London this week learnt a lesson all politicians should heed:
You can never be anti-Israel enough for the Israel hating crowd. Nothing short of Israel’s destruction will satisfy them.
The wider lesson - you can never appease the extremists.
The Palestinian Authority must not cancel November’s elections.
Efforts to cancel or postpone the Palestinian elections have become deeply alarming. Since last night, we have been engaging urgently with the European Union to defend the scheduled election date of November 28.
A meeting of EU ambassadors is now taking place in Jerusalem. They have received the attached letter from Masar Jadid, addressed to the foreign ministers of all EU member states, calling for immediate, direct intervention to preserve the election date.
We may be standing alone on the front lines today in defence of Palestinian elections, but we carry the voice of a people who want to choose their representatives and shape their future—and of a generation waiting for its first opportunity to participate and bring change.
Defending these elections means defending Palestinian rights and the hope of peaceful, democratic change. We will continue mobilizing every relationship and resource we have to protect this opportunity.
Our voice must be heard: our people have the right to vote, and our youth have the right to shape their future.
We urge you to stand with us

When I saw the Nova music festival site, the impact of October 7th hit home. Three years on, the violence continues, and we have seen an appalling rise in antisemitism here and around the world. We must stand with the Jewish community, stamp out antisemitism, and work for peace.

On the third anniversary of the devastating events of October 7th my thoughts are with the Jewish community. Jewish people must be able to live their lives freely and without fear. We must always stand against antisemitism.
Three years on from 7 October, we remember all those murdered, the hostages and their families.
In February, LDFI visited kibbutz Kfar Aza and the Nova festival site, with Liberal Democrat MPs and advisers, and met Nova survivor Rafaela Treistman.
We must never forget.

Camden Lib Dem group leader Cllr Tom Simon and parliamentary candidates Patrick Stillman and Katie Mansfield:
'With these votes, the Green Party has crossed a line. The rights to manifest one’s religion and of freedom of association are fundamental human rights, and these are now at risk.
'In the Liberal Democrats, we will continue to speak up for the values of liberty, equality and community. We will continue to call for the bold, urgent action needed to tackle climate change. We will make welcome any real Greens who choose to join us.'
The fallout from Green Party conference in Camden is continuing. The Liberal Democrats had been due to work with the Greens to set up a cross-party climate emergency taskforce - announced at last council meeting. That arrangement looks like it now won’t happen as both Lib Dems and Tories won’t work with Greens after ‘Zionism is racism’ motion was passed.

I am angry that @TheGreenParty have passed a motion that alienates so many in the Jewish community, both here in Richmond Park and across London. Their right to live safely, securely and openly matters.

British Jews are rightly horrified by events at the Green Party conference - I am too.
I’ve written to the EHRC alongside @LibDems colleagues @mariecgoldman and @ZoeFranklinLD to ask whether the Green Party’s new policy is a breach of the Equality Act.

The Green Party has never called for any other existing state to be abolished, just the world’s only Jewish one. Extremism in action.
Zionism is not racism. We are appalled to see the Green Party adopt this motion. The Liberal Democrats are a Zionist party, committed to Israel’s right to exist alongside a Palestinian state. The party are also leading on environmental issues, as the Greens claim to do.

The Green Party motion stokes anti-Jewish hatred and does nothing to combat antisemitism or islamaphobia.
Turning to the extremes is no way to bring people together or help people feel safer.

Thanks for this opp to refute your silly points.
As VP of @_LDFI I believe in a

But not in Bibi; I support our LD ally @yairlapid.
I also back a Pal state & on my trip this year met the Mayor of Ramallah.
I am not racist towards anyone.
I am not indoctrinated.
Replying to @SarahLudford
You became an anti Palestinian racist by choice and not because you were indoctrinated?
