We recently spoke to the folks at @toromontcat about what makes their business unique and how they support Ontario's aggregate industry!

🪨 Did you know? Adding a single kilometre to the distance every aggregate truck in Ontario travels would generate an additional 7,000 tonnes of GHG emissions annually. That's why access to close-to-market aggregate matters. Sourcing materials close to where they're needed reduces lowers emissions and supports more sustainable construction of the homes, roads and infrastructure we rely on every day. 🔗 Learn more at ossga.com/gravel_facts/

Aggregate extraction doesn't necessarily mean the end of agricultural land use. 🌾 Research highlighted by @_OSSGA found agriculture was the predominant subsequent use at 21% of 701 rehabilitated aggregate sites studied. 🚜 That's more than one in five. 📊 Let us know in the comments what type of content you would like to see coming up!💬 #OntarioAgriculture #Rehabilitation #LandUse #Aggregate #CBM

Some of the material used to build modern Ontario was put in place thousands of years ago. 🧊 @_OSSGA explains that sand and gravel pits occur where glaciers left behind deposits of stone and sand. 🪨 We can choose where infrastructure is built, but we can't choose where geology placed the resources needed to build it. 📍 Did geology's role in aggregate location surprise you? 👇 #OntarioGeology #Aggregate #NaturalResources #Infrastructure #CBM

Aggregate producers across Ontario are making a difference in their communities. Fowler Construction is a great example, supporting food banks in Muskoka and Parry Sound over Thanksgiving!

Take a guess: what percentage of Ontario's aggregate goes toward roads and highways? 🤔 @_OSSGA puts it at nearly 60%, including aggregate used in asphalt and concrete. 🛣️ That's a significant share of Ontario's stone, sand and gravel supporting the transportation network we use every day. 🪨 Would you have expected the number to be this high? 👇 #OntarioRoads #Aggregate #Infrastructure #Construction #CBM

Great conversations and valuable insights during Minister @Andrea_Khanjin's visit to our member Walker Industries' Niagara operation yesterday. Thank you for taking the time to meet with the team and see firsthand how Ontario’s aggregate industry supports road building and infrastructure projects across the province. We appreciated the chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.

🪨 Thank you to everyone who came out to our Grey-Bruce-Simcoe Regional Committee meeting today at Bear Creek Golf Club! It was a great opportunity for OSSGA staff to connect with members in the area and hear about local concerns. Next stop is Sudbury!

🌊 More than 293 hectares of aquatic habitat — the equivalent of 1,849 NHL hockey rinks — have been created from rehabilitated aggregate sites in Ontario. That's real community impact. These rehabilitated sites provide valuable habitats and support biodiversity in the local areas long after extraction is complete. ✅ Learn more about the industry's progressive rehabilitation practices: ossga.com/gravel_facts/rehab…

♻️ An excellent day on the road with OSSGA members and industry partners during our Rehabilitation Tour, showcasing how former aggregate sites can be transformed into valuable community, environmental and economic assets. A highlight of the tour was a stop at the Royal Botanical Gardens’ Rock Garden, where we rededicated the OSSGA Bronze Plaque Award. Once a gravel pit, the Rock Garden stands today as one of Ontario's most celebrated examples of aggregate rehabilitation. Thank you to our participating members, sponsors and the @RBGCanada!

🌊 Did you know that 92 per cent of the water used to wash and process aggregate is recycled through a closed-loop system? It’s one of the ways aggregate producers responsibly manage resources while supplying the materials our communities need. 🔗 Learn more: ossga.com/gravel_facts/rehab…

What if yesterday's concrete could help build tomorrow's infrastructure? ♻️ Concrete that has reached the end of one use can still contain valuable aggregate. Suitable material can be recovered, processed and reused as recycled aggregate in new applications instead of being treated solely as waste. 🪨 That means a material that already helped build something once can potentially contribute again. It's resource efficiency on an infrastructure scale. 🏗️ @_OSSGA #SecondHandSeptember #RecycledAggregates #ResourceEfficiency #OntarioConstruction #CBM
