Just amazing to get government backing for our critical Nature recovery vision here in Northumberland
This is great news for Northumberland: there are few places in England where nature recovery can take place on this scale. This £1.9 million from the govt gets the project over the line. It’s worth noting that it also secures the future for 12 farms, 23 homes & one village pub!

Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.  Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise. Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers. Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.  Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

Apparently even taking part in Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer is enough to cause outrage now. You can disagree with someone’s politics without finding fault in absolutely everything they do. Good on you @andyburnham.
The man spent an hour watching TV with his mate to help raise some money for cancer. Maybe chill out?

This Labour government has: ✅ Hit its target of having the fastest economic growth in the G7 📈 Secured multiple unexpectedly good growth statistics, and 🧑‍💻Started to deliver more efficient public services Now the budget next week should: 💷 Help consumers with the cost of living, and 📊 Help businesses to grow, export and employ more. Everyone deserves a safe, secure home they can be proud of. Today I visited @Shelter to hear directly from their team and social housing campaigners about how we can deliver a new generation of council homes. As we strengthen the Social Housing Bill, we’re putting tenants at the heart of those changes, from protecting survivors of domestic abuse in social housing to giving council tenants more control over repairs and maintenance. Because delivering a new generation of social housing isn’t just about building more homes. It’s about making sure they’re safe, secure and shaped by the people who live in them.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has responded to the unacceptable online abuse directed at a Met officer who received an award at yesterday's annual Police Federation Conference. PC Fiona Shaik Umar was recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made for women in policing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The vast majority of criticism was not because she is Muslim, but because she was not following very basic gun safety rules. Her finger was on the trigger and she pointed the barrel of the gun at a fellow officer. gunsafetyrules.nra.org hunter-ed.com/muzzleloader/s… x.com/BasilTheGreat/… x.com/WilkieisBack66… x.com/LozzaFox/statu…
