Tom Nichols: The president of the United States does not know what he's doing. He's an unstable person and the people below him are incredibly incompetent. His negotiating team is his son-in-law and a real estate developer. The Secretary of State is somewhere. The Director of National Intelligence is virtually invisible.

The Russian government's cash crunch now finally extends to the military, as Russia's Ministry of Defense has announced that all officers not currently serving at the front will be skipping their December salary. No reason has been given. This waa uncovered this morning by Russian media outlet Verstka.
Verstka has found out that the Russian Ministry of Defense is postponing the payments of salaries and other supplements for December to its staff that are not taking part in the war to January 2027. This is the first time such a postponement happens in the last 18 years.

Historian Sarah Paine: Putin's invasion of Ukraine was a pivotal error. He would have done much better sitting on Crimea and Donbas and slowly destabilizing Ukraine over years. Instead he has massively contributed to Ukrainian national identity. 1/

People wonder why Russia’s elites have not conspired to take down Putin. as many of their lives and fortunes are wasted on his war. This is why. He got into this mess, but they believe he’s also the only one who can get them back to the world stage. With Trump’s help, of course.
Russian war criminal Lavrov just landed in Atlanta, US 🇷🇺🇺🇸 We are now welcoming international terrorists and a war criminals in this country. Americans should remember that when voting, Trump & Co is working with terrorists.

In today's Whitehouse on a Halloween party we a kid wearing a russian military uniform with a modern russian tank forces patch featuring Armata tank. This is a carefully crafted political message by someone in Trump's inner circle. This isn't a coincidence. Troops wearing this patch are currently pillaging and raping Ukrainian children, while their supporters and enablers sends their kids to celebrate Halloween with the USA president.

"We decline the United States’s invitation to contravene the Elections Clause by undermining the Constitution’s plain text." In other words, the Ninth Circuit majority says no thanks to the Trump regime's anti-Constitutional request to sideline 20,000 California ballots based on 11th hour, spurious claims of "likely" noncitizen voting. A private prison company offered Minnesota an empty prison for 75 million dollars. The state said no. Then Trump’s administration paid the same company almost 500 million for it. The prison has sat empty in Appleton, Minnesota since 2010. Last year CoreCivic emailed the state and offered to sell it for 75 million, upgrades included. Minnesota passed. Fifteen months later, Homeland Security bought it for an ICE detention center at 495.6 million. How could this be? You guessed it. CoreCivic gave half a million dollars to Trump’s inaugural committee. And it still gets paid about 75 million a year to run the place. Republicans love talking about fraud in Minnesota. JD Vance says his task force is all over it. So where are they on this one? I break it all down in today’s show (link in reply).

THE MOST INCOMPETENT WAR IN HISTORY: SARAH PAINE ON TRUMP’S IRAN DISASTER Dr. Sarah Paine, a leading historian of great-power conflict and strategy, delivers a blunt verdict on the Iran war. She calls it one of the most incompetent wars in human history. The decision ignored basic principles of assessment, put maximum costs on America itself, and left permanent damage to the country’s power and alliances. This is not hindsight—it is the predictable result of hubris meeting reality. THE CORE VERDICT ➡️ “The Iran war is probably one of the most incompetent wars in human history.” ➡️ A competent war puts the costs on the enemy and minimizes them for yourself. ➡️ This one did the opposite. THE COST CATASTROPHE ➡️ It trashed the US economy. ➡️ It blew the US alliance system. ➡️ Iran is hurting, but the collateral damage is taking down the world’s economy. ➡️ That transforms the United States from a partner into an annoyance—and for many, a primary adversary—because it is threatening their economies. ➡️ “That’s breathtakingly incompetent.” THE STRATEGIC BLIND SPOT ➡️ Any serious assessment looks at the enemy’s strengths and your own weaknesses, plus everyone else who might intervene. ➡️ That was absent. ➡️ The first thing Iran would do is shut Hormuz. Narrow seas close in wartime. Ukraine already showed this with the Black Sea. ➡️ Shore artillery, mines, and other tools stop traffic. There is no mystery here. ➡️ The big naval base in Bahrain becomes unreachable. The fallback is Diego Garcia, 2,500 miles away in the middle of nowhere. “That would be a mess.” THE HUBRIS THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE ➡️ The people making the calls are historically unqualified for the job. That makes them profoundly dangerous. ➡️ Type A hubris assumes all decisions that matter happen in the United States. ➡️ Type B hubris assumes being good at one thing makes you good at everything. ➡️ Half-court tennis: you only watch your own side and never study the other team. ➡️ The Iranians understand Americans far better than Americans understand them. THE UNFEASIBLE OBJECTIVE ➡️ Trying to “solve” Iran with 90 million people was never realistic. ➡️ Nazi Germany had roughly 80 million and required an occupation force of about 1.5 million just to hold it after the war—before counting everyone else. ➡️ The goal was unattainable. Pursuing it guarantees overextension and a bad ending. ➡️ The lesson the world takes is simple: get a nuke. The war incentivized proliferation. ➡️ This was a pivotal error. The choices that existed before are gone and will not return. “We will never be the trusted partner ever again. It’s done.” THE BOTTOM LINE The Iran war did not merely fail. It maximized American costs, destroyed trust with allies, and handed every rival a clearer reason to treat the United States as a threat to their own prosperity. Competence would have contained the problem at affordable cost. Hubris chose the opposite. This is what permanent strategic damage looks like. #IranWar #SarahPaine #StrategicIncompetence #HormuzDisaster #USHubris #AllianceCollapse #CatastrophicMistake HT: YouTube The Diary Of A CEO

Trump’s administration is incoherent, but if you follow the paths of personal enrichment and good for Russia, you’ll be right almost every time.
So, Russia is working with the Houthis to target Saudi oil infrastructure and drive up world oil prices to help the Russian economy. And Trump is not helping the Saudis defend while also threatening to escalate his war--which also increases price of oil. It all helps Russia--funny that. understandingwar.org/researc…
