The issue isn't simply losing money. Its losses relative to revenue, franchise growth & market performance.

MLS operates differently.
It's a closed, independent league with centralized commercial revenues, revenue sharing, roster spending controls & no relegation.
The structure reduces financial exposure to sporting results.
🇨🇦 clubs operate within those same protections.
🇨🇦 MLS falling behind ⏱️:
1. All 3 lost money: −$33M combined
2. TOR lost $14M despite $74M revenue
3. VAN/MTL rank 29th & 30th in franchise value
4. All 3 appreciated 0–1% vs MLS average of +6% (Forbes)
5. Combined operating margin: −19.6%
