Israels Vorgehen werde im Bundestag kaum kritisiert oder dürfe gar nicht kritisiert werden, sagt AfD-Chef Tino Chrupalla. Damit müsse Schluss sein: Auch für Israel hätten dieselben Grundsätze zu gelten.

As Plato warns in the Republic, to subordinate reason to thumos and the pursuit of truth to the pursuit of honor is the mark of timocracy, the first of the four corrupt types of polity and corrupt types of soul he identifies. Yet this is what many on the right today embrace, just as many on the left embrace the corrupt egalitarian and libertine tendencies Plato says are typical of democracy, another of the corrupt regimes he identifies. From the perspective of the tradition begun by Socrates and Plato, this timocratic strain of the right is not a cure for what ails the West any more than the woke left is, but simply another manifestation of the disease.

Not sure if I should be happy or sad that the West in parallel of starting WW3 is committing economic suicide. But what else can you expect from a war that is primarily started to be able to continue to ignore basic geopolitical realities?

And here I was hoping that to "tackle the China challenge" Europe would at least make an attempt to be smart about it, like the Chinese were when they tackled "the West challenge."
How would we have reacted back then if the Chinese had said that the way they'd rise up to the challenge would be with an instrument to completely ban all Western products? We'd have said it proved they were scared, that they couldn't compete, that they'd just condemned themselves to irrelevance. And we'd have been right.

Man muss FJ Strauß nur drei Minuten zuhören, und der ganze intellektuelle und sittliche Verfall der Gegenwart liegt offen da. Es geht im Gespräch mit Günter Gaus 1964 um die notwendige Qualifikation eines Politikers.
Strauß redet dabei nicht als Parteimanager. Er redet als jemand, der noch wusste, dass Politik ein Charakterberuf ist. Kein Strategiepapier. Keine Arbeitsgruppe. Kein „neues Narrativ“. Ein Politiker, erst recht ein Kanzler, braucht ein Fundament, das älter ist als die letzte Koalitionsrunde.
Und dann die Unterscheidung, die heute niemand mehr treffen will: Weltanschauung ist nicht Weltbild, Weltbild ist nicht Geschichtsbild. Ohne Geschichtsbild bleibt nur Verwaltung. Strauß verlangt das damals Selbstverständliche: Strömungen erfassen, Folgen ahnen, den schwachen Spuren der Wahrheit auch in düsterer Zeit folgen. Instinkt plus Mut zum Wagnis. Die heutigen Altparteien CDU und SPD haben nichts mehr davon. Sie hatten ihre Zeit und sind nur noch morsch. Jetzt werden sie von Kräften verdrängt, die wieder den Mut haben, den großen Bewegungen der Zeit zu folgen. Im Grunde ein völlig normaler Vorgang.

Bei Themen wie Klimawandel oder Corona wurde mit Angst gearbeitet. Bei der Militarisierung läuft es anders: Es geht um die Normalisierung und Veralltäglichung des Kriegs. Ein Krieg mit Russland, mit dem hohen Risiko eines Atomkriegs, erscheint führbar.
