Families caring for children with complex disabilities show extraordinary resilience every day.
My late brother, Champ, lived with lissencephaly. Growing up alongside him, I saw first-hand the challenges of navigating appointments, fragmented services and the constant search for support.

🏥Earlier this week I attend a drop-in with @hospiceuk to hear directly about the pressures facing the hospice sector.
The challenges are stark:
🧑🦳 Regional variations in funding range from £9.09 per head to as little as £1.25
👨⚕️ 1 in 3 people who need palliative care miss out on the support they need
🏥 6 in 10 hospices have made, or are planning to make, cuts to frontline services this year
📋 Hospice UK’s four-point plan is calling for:
💷 Full funding for specialist palliative care
🤝 Proper NHS contracts for hospices
👩⚕️ Funding to cover rising wage bills
🇬🇧 National accountability to ensure fair and equal provision of palliative care across the country
Hospices provide invaluable care and support to patients and their loved ones at incredibly difficult moments. It was informative to hear from Hospice UK about what needs to change to protect these vital services for the future. 💙

Lots of tinkering around the edges and throwing confetti.
That was my verdict on the Budget when I spoke to ITV.
Yesterday’s announcements simply don’t go far enough because Labour still doesn’t understand the scale of the problem.

‘John Healey, if you’re listening, where’s my breathing space?’
Business owner Paul Bowen has criticised the Chancellor’s promise to give ‘breathing space’ through measures in his Budget.

Sorry, this isn’t credible. If you want to be in the chamber for the budget, there’s always a way.
Callum Murphy retweeted
Is that it?
John Healey had a big job to do cleaning up Labour’s mess. This Budget fails to do it.
Britain is overspent, overborrowed and overtaxed. This Budget does not come close to meeting the moment.

Britain’s hospices provide extraordinary care, yet too many face an uncertain financial future.
The Chancellor must not overlook them in tomorrow’s Budget.

To be fair, Kemi did a fucking fantastic job here.

Look at Andy Burnham’s FACE 😂

Remember when Healey and Burnham made a big deal about going to the pub and having a pint together just weeks ago?
We all thought they were trying to be men of the people.
Turns out they were actually just sizing up your pint for more taxes.

Sir Martin Sorrell is one of the UK’s top businessmen.
He sees nothing in Labour’s likely budget offering to help the economy, laments the economic decline of Europe and quickly rubbishes the UK’s “highest growth in the G7” mantra.
Worth a watch.

Early detection of prostate cancer will save lives, but we must do more so the men at the greatest risk aren't left behind.
Yesterday, I led the debate on improving prostate cancer screening, following a petition signed by 101,932 people, including 195 here in the Scottish Borders.
Sir Chris Hoy's diagnosis highlighted the importance of detecting prostate cancer early, yet the government's current approach to screening means that men like Sir Chris, who have no symptoms, may not be offered routine testing at all.
🏴I asked the Minister what discussions have taken place with the Scottish Government to ensure that access to screening doesn't depend on which side of the border you live. With advances in testing and new evidence emerging, we should be improving early detection to save lives.
Thank you to @PCR_News for their work campaigning on this important issue.👏

Hospices do incredible work supporting patients and families in our communities, but too many are facing real financial pressures.
With the Budget coming tomorrow, the Government must ensure hospices have the sustainable funding they need to continue providing this vital care💛

The government are all over the place on defence spending. I don't think Andy Burnham realises he commits to spending 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 in this interview...his Defence Secretary won’t even make that commitment!
When the government are saying Britain needs to be ready for war in 1000 days, hitting a defence spending target in 2035 is too late. Getting to 3% by 2030 means spending the money to be ready NOW, not in 9 years time.
‘You’ve just spooked everybody by saying stockpile…what are you doing to invest in defence?’
Susanna Reid challenges the PM on whether he will hit the defence spending target of 3% of GDP by 2030.
Andy Burnham insists his government ‘will’ hit the target.
