Basically, someone can’t just type in your Twitch chat and instantly hack your OBS. The attack needs multiple things to go wrong: first, you’d need a badly made custom chat overlay that reads a viewer’s message like computer code instead of normal text, then it would still need other browser/OBS weaknesses to get further. So if you’re using something like the normal StreamElements chat widget, there’s much less reason to panic. The diagram mentioning StreamElements/Streamlabs just means they’re examples of overlay services it does not mean their normal widgets are automatically vulnerable. The bigger thing to be careful with is random custom overlays, downloaded code, or AI-made widgets that may not properly clean chat messages. Twitch chat itself isn’t the danger, it’s a vulnerable custom overlay. For now!! Keep OBS and your overlay services updated, avoid random custom widgets you don’t trust, and if you use custom HTML/JS, have the code checked before putting it on stream. No need to panic and just be a little more careful with what Browser Sources you add to OBS.
