An important report tracing the unsettling death of a Rohingya child in India: telegraph.co.uk/global-healt… @TelGlobalHealth
Trafficked #Rohingya refugee Hamida was only 14 when she died this year under "mysterious" circumstances while detained in #India.
When I set out to investigate her death for @Telegraph, I had no idea about the widespread systemic problem I would uncover: tinyurl.com/y6cy33fu

If you haven't already the @BeebRoger podcast with @lotaboluoki is well worth listening to, talking about why peoples' ability to find high-quality international news & investigative journalism is so important given the increasing role of online intermediaries & algorithms.
In the same week Tim Davie called for more govt. funding for the BBC World Service while axing Hard Talk, @GarethBenest of @_ibt discusses the decline in international coverage by UK broadcasters & the impact of algorithms on public service broadcasting.🎧 podfollow.com/beebwatch/view

👫 Struggling families are being told that putting their child into an orphanage is the best way to give them a chance at a better life.
⚠️ But this is a trick – once they’re in the orphanages, the children are often just used as a way to make the owners money.

The #AutumnBudget is another dismal chapter in the story of UK Aid.
The Chancellor has made further effective cuts to overseas aid spending.
With each year that passes, more of the overseas aid budget is being diverted to a domestic asylum system that is not fit for purpose.

We’re bitterly disappointed to see that today’s #Budget2024 confirms that the cuts to the UK overseas aid budget will not be reversed despite encouraging signs in the Labour manifesto.

The farmers that fed Sudan are at risk of facing famine.
We went to the edges of Al-Jazira state where farmers are fearing a failed harvest. Then to Gadarif, where displaced families are relying on donated food.
