When right wingers push for university courses to prioritise ROI, what they really mean is for them to become RnD labs for the military.
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Wildfires in the American West present a secondary threat that has received far less attention: flooding.
A tourist town knew recent fires could worsen flash floods, but officials chided residents who posted warnings on social media.

"Speculative data center debt is being repackaged and sold to pension and retirement funds, university endowments, and other institutional investors in a manner eerily reminiscent of the subprime bubble."

I’m sorry, but hackers remotely turning off refrigeration systems at hundreds of supermarkets and destroying all their fresh and frozen food is INSANE. We’ve connected so much of our physical world to the internet that apparently even keeping milk cold is now a cybersecurity problem. What the actual hell.

I learned something very beautiful today. In French, “bibliothèque intérieure” means your “inner library” the invisible shelf you carry inside, filled with every story that’s ever shaped you.

It's ideologically, psychologically impossible to name this for what it is, so instead of talking about terrible governance causing economic damage and impoverishment that creates economic refugees, we talk about "expats seeking higher quality of life with lower cost of living."

When you work harder to earn more money that buys less goods and services of lower quality—you are becoming poorer. That's the word for it.

"Enshittification" is a sort of "safe horny" term for what is really just outright impoverishment and declining living standards due to economic insolvency from deindustrialization, demographic decline, hyperinflation, etc.
You are just de-developing and becoming poor.

The monarch butterfly population has gone up this season by 64% and one of the reasons is because people are planting pollinators gardens. Look what we can do together with a common goal in mind. We need to plant more next year as their population is still not stable.
