You can tell that the writers think this is him taking accountability. Like no, constantly confirming to the people you hurt that you did wrong by them is the first step. Stolas still hasn’t changed and he’ll continue to not do anything different other than pitying himself.

Yes. This isn’t excusable. But it’s also someone being an imperfect victim in a mutually toxic marriage. Stolas in this scene does nothing but lie and degrade and claim he’s tried to make it work when s3 shows he did absolutely nothing to make the marriage okay for Stella.
