How should we control multi-fingered robot hands? 🖐️🤖
With RL policies. Using policies trained in simulation, our new 13 DoF hand for Atlas can autonomously rotate a ball between its fingers, spin a drumstick, and thread a nut. 🧵 (1/5)
In 2018, I didn’t recognize the importance of the original DeepMimic paper. At the time, humanoid robots were rare and domain randomization was still relatively new. Today, many demos and whole-body controllers are powered by DeepMimic-inspired methods. 🧵

#RSS2024 was a great! I enjoyed the talks, demos, posters and Delft. It was one of the best organized conferences. Looking forward to RSS 2025 in Los Angeles.
The first day of #RSS2024 workshops was great. Looking forward to the next few days!

My Ph.D. thesis on combining domain knowledge and machine learning for robotics 🤖 🧠 got finally published in the Springer STAR series. Thanks for the great memories @ias_tudarmstadt & @Jan_R_Peters
I am very honored to receive the 2022 Georges Giralt Ph.D. Award for the best robotics Ph.D. thesis in Europe from @eu_Robotics at the #ERF2022 . Thanks to @Jan_R_Peters and my colleagues at @ias_tudarmstadt that made this thesis possible! 😁🤖
After 5 successful years at @ias_tudarmstadt, it’s time to move. It was a fun and challenging time with many highlights. We made deep networks physically consistent and taught robots to juggle. Thanks to all colleagues and collaborators. 👋
Last friday I finally defended my PhD on Robot Learning! 😄👨🎓🎉🎊🤖🧠 I want to thank my supervisor @Jan_R_Peters, my colleauges at @ias_tudarmstadt, DeepMind and NVIDIA for the amazing rollercoaster ride during my PhD and the internships.
