.......*is* she bad at campaigning tho?
The LA mayoral race is a good test to see if someone who is bad at campaigning and coalition building can beat someone who is bad at being the mayor.

Los Angeles, I am deeply honored to be your next mayor. I just spoke with Mayor Bass and expressed my deepest gratitude for her leadership and decades of service. Los Angeles would not be the city it is today without her. I love this city. I believe in its people. The work ahead will be hard, and change will take time. And together, we are going to build a future as extraordinary as the city we call home. Thank you, LA. Let’s get to work.

Not to beat a dead horse but it’s genuinely impressive that Karen Bass managed to lose as an incumbent backed by the entire LA/CA political machine, really says it all about her performance as mayor and her campaign

A good or even mediocre mayor cruises to reelection w that level of institutional support, you have to go out of your way to bungle multiple high-profile public crises and be openly contemptuous towards the idea of addressing issues faced by non-homeowners to lose that race lol

Worst place to be in any sport is highest level of sub-elite; you’re exceptionally talented and have devoted years to mastering your craft but you’re acutely aware of how far you are from the real pros
6-6:30 pace marathoners seem to be the most unhappy ones out there, despite being unfathomably fast to non-runners

tennis has the challenger tour, golf the korn ferry tour, baseball the low level minors/indy ball, basketball and soccer any number of low-level leagues in distant countries, track the guys just outside the otq/us champs qualifying windows… all the same. miserable place to be

this is your yearly reminder that Mark C. Lee brought a picture of a cow aboard STS-30 to remind him of home (he grew up on a farm in Wisconsin), resulting in this gem of a photo

amongst….everything else going on, it sure is funny how the two Democratic candidates in recent years whose primary wins provoked their rivals to wage seething, spiteful, petulant general election campaigns against them are named “Zohran Mamdani” and “Abdul El-Sayed” !!!

Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.

a society grows great when men build people movers in whose cars they know they will never sit... small-minded people keep talking about "delays" and "cost overruns" but i know this project is not for me but for my children's children
The long-delayed LAX People Mover project experienced multiple electrical arc blast incidents last month, according to a report obtained by 7 On Your Side Investigates, adding to a growing list of issues impacting a project that is already years behind schedule. abc7ne.ws/mheQmt

Lula no se merecía terminar su vida política perdiendo con un personaje tan indigno. A veces, muy pocas veces, la historia es justa.
