Wirklich tolle Sache!
A seven year old girl was shaking uncontrollably outside an Arizona courtroom.
She had to walk inside and testify against the man who had beaten and abused her.
Her abuser sat twenty feet away with his defense attorney, smirking at her.
The little girl vomited from fear.
She curled into a ball on the bench and refused to stand.
Then the thunder began.
The heavy double doors of the courthouse swung open.
Thirty men and women walked into the hallway in formation.
They did not wear suits.
They wore black leather vests covered in skull patches, heavy steel chains, and combat boots.
Beards down to their belt buckles. Tattoos up to their ears.
They were members of BACA.
Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Their leader, a six foot three biker, knelt on the marble floor so his face was level with the little girl.
He handed her a tiny denim vest with her road name stitched on the front.
"You belong to us now," he whispered gently. "Nobody touches you. Nobody hurts you."
When the bailiff called her name, the girl did not walk alone.
Thirty massive bikers lined the center aisle of the courtroom.
They filled the public gallery behind her, staring straight through the abuser with dead cold eyes.
Two bikers stood directly beside the witness stand.
The abuser looked at thirty pairs of fists resting on leather knees.
He did not smirk again.
The little girl sat in the wooden chair.
She touched the denim vest.
She looked her abuser in the eyes and told the truth.
BACA members do not get paid a single dime.
They do not carry guns into court.
They just ride hundred mile round trips in the rain to sit on wooden benches.
So a broken child knows she is not alone.

Am 11.9. vor 25 Jahren saß ich nach einem wunderschönen Urlaub in einem Taxi auf dem Weg von Alanya nach Antalya. Gerade noch den letzten Flieger erwischt, kurz danach wurde der Flugverkehr eingestellt. In München angekommen: Gespenstische Stille und Stimmung.

🇺🇸 The Boatlift That Was Bigger Than Dunkirk
At 10:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001, a Coast Guard lieutenant named Mike Day keyed a radio in New York Harbor and said the only sentence that mattered.
“All available boats. This is the United States Coast Guard. Anyone wanting to help with the evacuation of Lower Manhattan, report to Governors Island.”
The boats were already coming.
The bridges were closed. The tunnels were closed. The subways were dead. South of the towers, hundreds of thousands of people had nowhere left to walk. Some jumped into the Hudson. Some stood on seawalls that were never meant to be docks and waited for anything that floated.
Dunkirk took nine days to pull 338,226 Allied soldiers off a beach in 1940.
On 9/11, roughly 800 mariners on about 150 vessels moved as many as 500,000 civilians off Manhattan in about nine hours. Ferries. Tugs. Dinner boats. Pilot boats. Yachts. A retired fireboat. Rubber dinghies that held two people. The largest water evacuation in history.
NY Waterway did not wait for the official call. After the second plane hit, the whole fleet moved. Captain Rick Thornton nosed his ferry against a seawall that was not a slip and started taking people off. Some of them he pulled out of the river. His company alone carried about 158,000 people to Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Brooklyn, and Queens.
On a normal Tuesday they carried 34,000.
The Staten Island Ferry moved more than 50,000 people and came back the other way with water, bandages, and men who still had work to do in the dust.
The old fireboat John J. Harvey, already retired, tied up near the Museum of Jewish Heritage, took civilians off the seawall, then pumped water when the hydrants downtown died.
Lt. Day later admitted what the day required. “I broke more rules that day than probably I’ve enforced in my whole Coast Guard career.”
In raw numbers it was bigger than Dunkirk. No boat went down. By nightfall the southern tip of Manhattan had been emptied by people who were not on anyone’s list of heroes when the morning started.
They were tug captains. Ferry deckhands. Pilots. A lieutenant with a microphone. Ordinary boats answering one sentence.
All available boats.

This sounds completely unreal but I double checked and it's true: the Eiffel Tower was closed on Monday due to a Hindu sect that demanded that all women "make themselves invisible" so their 93-year-old guru wouldn't have to see them.
The sect in question is BAPS - "Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha," which roughly translates to "the organization of Swaminarayan followers who believe in Akshar Purushottam, based in Bochasan" (a village in Gujarat).
It's a very wealthy organization with deep ties to Modi's BJP (Modi is himself from Gujarat), known for building mega-temples around the world and whose doctrine demands absolute obedience to a living guru as the sole path to God.
It's not their first controversy: in 2021, the FBI raided their massive New Jersey temple after workers - mostly Dalits, India's lowest caste (the so-called "untouchables") - alleged they'd been lured to the US on fake religious visas, had their passports confiscated, and were forced to work 13-hour days for about $1 an hour, confined to a guarded compound (see nytimes.com/2021/05/11/nyreg…).
Long story short, they just opened a new mega-temple in France (the website: bapsmandirparis.fr/main-home) - specifically in Bussy-Saint-Georges (30km away from Paris) - presented as "the biggest Hindu temple built in continental Europe in a traditional style" (france24.com/fr/info-en-cont…).
Their guru was there for the inauguration and, as you do, wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower while in France. But, thing is, his doctrine dictates that women must not be in his presence.
And here is where it gets unreal: when his entourage requested a private visit, the Eiffel Tower's management actually agreed to the terms and ordered all female employees - including subcontractors - to hide (actu.fr/ile-de-france/paris_…).
This was on Saturday and, France being France (in a good way), on Monday the women who'd been told to make themselves invisible made themselves very, very visible: the staff went on strike and shut down the Eiffel Tower.
So there you have it, unreal but true: the Eiffel Tower, symbol of the French Republic, is closed because a 93-year-old Hindu guru refuses to be in the presence of women.

Morgen kann Sachsen-Anhalt Geschichte schreiben.
Meine Prognose ist, dass die AfD irgendwo bei 40 Prozent landet und mit Abstand stärkste Kraft wird.
Für die absolute Mehrheit reicht es eher knapp nicht.
Aber bei Grünen um 5–6 Prozent und BSW/FDP unter fünf kann schon wenig Bewegung die Sitzverteilung komplett verändern.
Genau deshalb bleibt morgen alles offen. Die letzte ZDF-Projektion sieht die AfD bei 41 Prozent und hält eine absolute Mehrheit für eher unwahrscheinlich.
Und falls sie doch kommt, beginnt vielleicht das teuerste politische Experiment Deutschlands.
Denn die AfD verspricht, endlich „zu liefern“.
Interessiert offenbar kaum jemanden, ob es finazierbar ist lt. IWH.
Dass dasselbe Institut davor warnt, ein migrationsfeindlicheres Klima könne Sachsen-Anhalt zusätzlich Tausende Arbeitskräfte und bis zu 3,2 Milliarden Euro Wertschöpfung kosten?
Auch das verschwindet hinter „Aufräumen“, „Deutsch denken“ und dem großen Versprechen, endlich werde alles anders.
Die bittere Pointe:
Am Anfang wird man von der Rechnung vermutlich wenig sehen.
Ein paar schnelle Symbole, ein paar demonstrativ gestrichene Förderungen, Kulturkampf, Migration und überall das große:
„Seht ihr, wir machen!“
Interessant wird es erst, wenn Politik plötzlich Geld kostet, Gesetze Grenzen setzen und Bundespolitik nicht auf Zuruf aus Magdeburg verschwindet.
Dann dürfte kaum jemand sagen:
Wir haben zu viel versprochen.
Dann waren es Berlin. Brüssel. Gerichte. Medien. NGOs. Die „Altparteien“. Irgendjemand wird sich finden, der angeblich verhindert hat, dass die große Rettung funktioniert.
Genau deshalb ist dieses „Lasst sie doch einmal regieren, dann merken es die Leute“ so naiv.
Ein Bundesland ist kein Testlabor.
Wenn die #AfD tatsächlich nur blendet, bezahlt Sachsen-Anhalt die Erfahrung.
In diesem Sinne, eine gute Nacht.

Noch eine wichtige Ergänzung zum Thema Mäuse in der Wohnung:
Bei meinem letzten Beitrag ging es zwar mit etwas Humor um Gertruds Jagderfolg und meine sechs Mäuse in den Fallen. Aber bei einem Punkt hört der Spaß tatsächlich auf: Mäusekot sollte man nicht einfach wegsaugen oder trocken zusammenfegen.
Hintergrund sind unter anderem Hantaviren. Infizierte Nagetiere können die Viren über Speichel, Urin und Kot ausscheiden. Trocknen diese Ausscheidungen ein, können beim Fegen oder Staubsaugen belastete Staubpartikel aufgewirbelt und eingeatmet werden. Genau deshalb wird ausdrücklich davon abgeraten, bei Mäusekot einfach den Staubsauger draufzuhalten.
Ich habe die Mäuseköttel deshalb nicht weggesaugt. Ich habe sie feucht mit Einmal-Küchentüchern aufgenommen und die Tücher anschließend sofort draußen im Mülleimer entsorgt. Danach habe ich die betroffenen Flächen gründlich gereinigt und desinfiziert.
Das Prinzip ist wichtig: Staub vermeiden, Ausscheidungen befeuchten, feucht aufnehmen und anschließend gründlich reinigen. Bei stärkerem Befall werden zusätzlich Handschuhe und geeigneter Atemschutz empfohlen. Räume mit Mäusebefall sollte man vor der Reinigung außerdem gründlich lüften.
Und nein, ich bin wirklich niemand, der wegen jedes Dreckflecks den ABC-Schutzanzug aus dem Keller holt. 😁
Aber Mäusekot ist tatsächlich kein harmloser Dreck, und die Gefahr einer Infektion sollte man nicht unterschätzen.
Also, falls ihr irgendwann Mäuseköttel in Keller, Garage, Schuppen oder Wohnung findet:
Bitte nicht einfach den Staubsauger holen.
Man muss keine Panik bekommen. Man sollte nur wissen, wie man das Zeug vernünftig beseitigt.

Wisst Ihr, ich als gebürtiger und hier lebender Sachsen-Anhaltiner hasse es abgrundtief, dass die #FCKAfD hier so hohe Umfragewerte hat. Auch wenn diese an sich n Scheiß wert sind, wenn das Stimmvieh nicht zur Wahlurne geht.
