this thread is not about food.
you spend hours preparing for a potluck. researching recipes, buying ingredients, cooking food, transferring it to serving dishes— and maybe even setting out a little notecard with a list of known allergens.

Babe, one of the most brilliant writers in my fandom is a surgeon. Go outside and touch grass.

Please check this website. All of my work and of my fellow writer friends was scrapped. Please don’t remove your work the way they suggest it and doxx yourselves. Follow the AO3 guidelines and be safe.
This is what we meant when we were asking fair our work not to be reuploaded

In light of recent ao3 related events, I have stumbled upon a website that I think authors need to be made aware of.
The website ao3 [DOT] life has been scraping and downloading fics published to ao3 for who knows how long. 🧵

how come writers that want to connect with other fans through their work are engagement farming capitalists but people who post these google links for engagement and being called people's lord and savior are not losers?

I’m taking this as an opportunity to educate and explain what archives in real life mean. As someone working in the GLAM sector. An archive doesn’t automatically mean unrestricted access. Some materials need permissions and others can be only viewed on-site. Some materials are

🕺 why is the “there’s a download button on the archive” reminding me of the ai-bros talking point of “we’re democratizing art for everyone now”?

saw someone say fic authors are parasites because they’re stealing engagement from the original work we have lost the plot so badly why do yall even read fic and want ao3 back so desperately if this is how you feel? go engage in the original work lol

ai bros 🤝 fic reuploaders
"you posted art online, so im allowed to do whatever i want with it :^) fuck ur boundaries :^) i dont respect u in the slightest :^) also its cringe that u even care :^) cloutchaser :^) u have no rights :^) this is gonna happen whether u like it or not"
When kids grow up during a pandemic & with no social life outside of twitter and discord, end up with abysmal social cues and lack of respect, see every hobby as consumption and interaction as potential for clout & money, this is what will happen.
Respect ao3 authors ffs.

at this point it's not about fanfic for me. it's about the fact so, so many of you are so comfortable being disgustingly, horrifically inconsiderate and cruel to other human beings. down to calling them parasitic, expendable, replaceable, all for expressing normal human emotion

i dont care for discourse but its interesting to see how the outage has revealed a deep disrespect for ao3 writers while those same people still scramble to continue feasting on their work, this nasty mindset of "youve outlived your purpose we have your work so now youre useless"

i think some of you are too young to remember the “I don’t own *original IP* or the characters. All rights belong to the creator. I gain no profit from this body of work.” disclaimer that was copy-pasted onto the start of every fanfic. bc wdym you think you “own” your fanfic 😭
the way almost every ao3 alternative crashes after blowing up on the tl should tell you how much infrastructure it takes to handle the sheer volume of traffic ao3 gets on the daily. yet some of you still complain about ao3 receiving donation like idiots
