Its fun when colleagues are at conferences and our research pops up. Happy to see our National Study of Playgrounds findings supporting the development of better public spaces and proving why everyone needs a place to play! (w/ @DesignPhilly, @tpl_org)
When you don’t plan it, but accidentally stumble upon a treehouse restaurant overlooking Koman Lake and the Albanian Alps, that also has swings and adorable cats. We are winning at travel studio! (@weitzman_landarch)
How can play affect climate change and build more resilient, happier communities? This is the question we are exploring in Albania with landscape architecture students from the University of Pennsylvania and our partner @qendra_marredhenie.
We don't talk enough about how play supports our whole body....including our hidden senses. Play is not just about physical movement, but creating opportunities of joy, connection, and stimulation of our whole self, throughout life.
Excited to see our Arches Playground with @OJBLA featured in Dezeen! dezeen.com/2024/09/20/ojb-co…
Loved seeing this article by the fabulous @LangeAlexandra, showcasing not just skating, but stormwater too! Solving climate problems with play?? Yes!
Good to hear about some fresh design thinking on #skateparks in this piece by the always-readable @LangeAlexandra. Interesting to note that in the US at least, skating is a fast-growing sport for both boys *and* girls. bloomberg.com/features/2024-…
Yes and yes. Public space for people of all ages to be together and play, is essential infrastructure.
This podcast does a great job of showing how there is no one answer to the "why/how/are the teens really depressed?"
We all have our priors + I'm always going to press for 3D alternatives to phones i.e. LET THE KIDS HAVE PUBLIC SPACE.

We designed the playscape at Moorestown Friends School to be habitat not just for kids, but for local wildlife too! So exciting to see that birds felt safe enough to nest in one of our kid nests :) W/ @metarch_design, @mfsfox
Excited to read this!!
I'm very excited to share the front cover of Designed for Play, my book on the convoluted history of the playground, due out in July with @UoLPress. It will be free to read online #playgroundhistories
Wow!!! So proud of the amazing 18 page spread in @landarchmag of our Arches Playground w/ @ojbla. So many thanks to the always impressive Dan Jost for a phenomenal feature. We need more play spaces that let kids and their grownups choose their own adventure!
Play doesn't stop after childhood, it just evolves. Lets design play for all! Our playground at FDR Park w/ @wrtdesign and @myphillypark is a perfect example.
“If you make a playground that is fun for teens, it will be fun for everyone. That fun starts with the swing.”

Sure, cherry blossoms are romantic, but have you tried a tandem swing? As swings get bigger and swoopier and stranger, they attract more than just kids.

Thanks @civic_grit! Its definitely our favorite project to date...more coming soon :)
I've seen many people call the new playground at FDR Park the best in Philly.
It was designed by a non-profit based out of West Philly: @_studio_ludo.
