Also with the reading debate it's really not the gender of the main characters. I can write a male protagonist that will be more appealing to women than men and a female protagonist that is more appealing to men than women.

Point is reducing it to the gender of the protagonist is flawed and people counterarguing with women have loved books with male protagonists so why can't men love books with female protagonists are kinda missing the point.

To me this just seems like the market following where the money is. If young girls are reading more than boys, it stands to reason that publishers would take that as a reason to publish more books with girl protagonists. It strikes me as silly to argue that this is the cause lol
