"We meet at a defining moment for Nairobi. The question is not whether technology will advance our cities, but whether our cities will truly protect life and serve their people." - AAK Vice President, Arch. Brenda Nyawara

The Eastleigh building collapse has raised serious questions about construction approvals, with Architectural Association of Kenya Treasurer Yassin Munyanya demanding accountability over possible regulatory failures. Munyanya questioned how the project was registered without architectural approvals, citing missing structural drawings and urging authorities to act on previous reports and hold those responsible accountable. Munyanya: We want to ask the National Construction Authority (NCA) how a project was registered without architectural approvals. There are more questions than answers that we have, but we, as professionals, are here and more than willing to try and bring this mystery to an end once and for all.

The Grow a Classroom Initiative is at the heart of the Architectural Association of Kenya and we had the privilege of kicking off the #AAKAnnualConvention2026 with growing Mabokoni Primary School, Diani. The primary school students participated in an art competition, showcasing what they would wish to have as a dream school. And what's better than incorporating what the beneficiaries of the school would want? The AAK Grow A Classroom Initiative aims at supporting schools to create sustainable and healthy schools and mentoring pupils on the professionals of the built environment from a young age, something most Africans learn out of school!
