Happy Soul Power Day!
2/12/26
Today celebrates the premiere date of the definitive story of the American Basketball League.
It especially honors the men and women 50 years ago who fought a giant and changed the sport of basketball, and American culture, forever!

Well said coach
Love it @JeffZillgitt and @NBAHistory but can we also discuss why ABA stats aren’t yet included in the NBA records or why none of the proceeds of ABA sales this year are going to the ABA guys?
“The competition in the ABA was always great. The four teams that survived the merger (San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York Nets) they’re all worthy and I pull for them today no matter who they’re against. This year when San Antonio was playing New York, even though I’m from New York, I was pulling for San Antonio just because they were an ABA franchise.”
NBA and ABA legend Julius Erving sat down with @JeffZillgitt to discuss the 50th anniversary of the merger and more.

I’m glad the NBA is celebrating the ABA’s. But it’s BS to recognize our league while many former ABA players struggle and their stats remain excluded from NBA records!
Honor the players. Honor the history. Honor the numbers. Honor the Legacy!
NBA, do the right thing!!

Many, many thanks for the kind words, @abathrowbacks!
If folks are interested in my article on why the NBA should recognize ABA stats and fully integrate them into the official NBA canon/record book, please go to roybrownell.com/wp-content/u…
This is George Carter. He averaged 19 pts and 13 bounds a game in college. He was drafted into 3 leagues but played 8 years in the ABA.
George died in ‘20 from cancer. He got no pensions from the NBA post retirement and suffered financially his whole life.
@wojespn @GoBonnies
Hey @J30_RANDLE did you know that none of the ABA stats are included in the NBA records? Or that many former ABA guys need health and financial support?
Love that you support ABA merch and apparel but the League isn’t doing it the right way. 😠
@lana_sports @droppingdimes67
Hey @Hali did you know there’s Indy based companies who make official ABA balls and who provide health and financial services to former ABA guys in need?

@NBA please do right by the guys who revolutionized the game I'm not buying until you do
“Like” this if you REFUSE to buy the NBA’s 50th anniversary ABA apparel and merch till a % of sales goes to ABA guys in need.
“Reshare” this if you REFUSE to buy ABA apparel and merch until the NBA includes ABA stats in its records
And drop that $ at @droppingdimes67 instead!

Damn right a percentage should go back to the ABA players in need!!

Nice of the @nets to use the official ABA ball for these promos!
Not nice they only bought a few and bought them at a discount!
😠☹️

Just donated $44 to Dropping Dimes for the ABA players, one dollar for each of Dan Issel's and George Gervin's #44. 🏀 These guys built the foundation of the modern NBA. Join me and give back! I will be making monthly gifts also. 👇

The NBA is selling ABA gear but ABA stats don’t count in NBA records, and no share of merchandise $$ has been publicly committed to former ABA players.

Amen🙏🏾
Instead of buying ABA gear from Fanatics and the NBA, consider making a donation to Dropping Dimes, which was founded to help struggling ABA players with their health and financials. 🙏
Consider ABA guys like Ralph Simpson or Gerald Govan when you do!

Here’s another one: BS!
Not one dime of ABA apparel sales are going to Indy based companies @lana_sports or @droppingdimes67
And DDF helps former ABA guys in need who are struggling with health or financial challenges! 😠

In 2024, Major League Baseball incorporated the statistics of the Negro Leagues.
In 2025, the NFL incorporated the statistics of the All-America Football Conference.
In 2026, on the 50th anniversary of NBA-ABA merger, will the NBA incorporate the statistics of the ABA?
