Today 125mm( about 5 inches) of rainfall was received in Elwak in a span of 1 hour. This is torrential rains by all standards. We expect this to cause property damage, power outages and emergency situation and infrastructure disruption. All flood emergency intervention measures need to be activated at both levels of government.

Moyale: Facts, Not Fabrications The violence in Moyale has cost lives which is totally unnecessary and unwarranted. Peace starts with truth. The Oromo invaded Somalis in Moyale and then want to play victim. The Borana are Oromo. The Garre are Somali. Sharing a border does not mean sharing an identity. Calling this decades of provocative violence "cousin rivalry" erases the suffering of real families. A flag raised in a Somali neighborhood is a pretext, not a cause. As we say: "Weyl ayaa ku tallaabsatay ilmo raadinayay sabab uu ku ooyo." Territory cannot be settled by force. The Somali Region, its people and its agreed boundaries must be respected. Thank you @aliiroba #Moyale #Ethiopia #Peace #SomaliRegion
What an extraordinary display of intellectual gymnastics! One must almost admire the audacity of attempting to disguise aggression as innocence and territorial expansionism as historical entitlement. Unfortunately, no amount of creative storytelling can manufacture facts, rewrite history, or transform an aggressor into a victim. The allegations of paramilitary advances from Oromia into somali territory deserve serious scrutiny, not this embarrassingly selective presentation of events. The reported testimonies of victims and evidence circulating on social media must be independently investigated. Propaganda is not evidence, and repetition does not magically turn fiction into truth. There is a Somali proverb worth reminding the architects of such narratives: “Nimaan sinnaan kuu ogoleyn, adna sarreyntiisa ha ogolaan.” He who refuses to coexist with you as an equal must never expect you to accept his supremacy. Perhaps the authorities in Oromia should spend less time entertaining fantasies of territorial dominance and more time studying the history, dignity, resilience and determination of the Somali people. Greater Moyale is a shared town, historically home to communities from both regions. This is neither a temporary arrangement nor a geographical inconvenience that can be corrected through military adventurism. No deployment of paramilitary forces, however ambitious its sponsors, can erase that reality. The Somali people have never required anyone’s permission to defend their homes, dignity or legitimate territorial rights. Those who mistake their preference for peaceful coexistence as weakness are making a spectacular miscalculation. And here lies the greatest absurdity, imagining that temporary military advantage can somehow confer permanent territorial ownership in the twenty-first century. What an astonishingly primitive theory of governance! Not one inch of territory should be acquired through intimidation, coercion or aggression. Regional boundaries must be respected. Those allegedly orchestrating these provocations from comfortable offices should understand one elementary truth: initiating confrontation is considerably easier than controlling its consequences. The communities who will pay the price deserve better than reckless political ambitions dressed up as patriotism. The planners may believe their intentions are cleverly concealed. Yet the allegations, accounts of victims and emerging evidence demand answers. Let this be absolutely clear: Somali people’s determination to defend legitimate rights must never be underestimated. Equally, no community should be condemned to endless conflict because of the ambitions of political actors. Oromia’s leadership faces a straightforward choice: pursue peaceful coexistence, mutual recognition and respect for established boundaries, or continue down a dangerous path that risks devastating both communities. And to the author of this spectacularly misleading tweet: congratulations on an impressive attempt to insult the public’s intelligence. Unfortunately, history is not rewritten by enthusiastic propagandists, territorial rights are not established through social-media fiction, and the truth does not become false simply because it is inconvenient. Moyale belongs to its people, not to expansionist ambitions. Coexistence is not a concession. Equality is not negotiable. Aggression must stop.

Quality education starts with teachers. But 44 million more teachers are still needed to ensure universal primary and secondary education by 2030. On #WorldTeachersDay, IPNEd calls on its members to close the teacher gap and support, empower, and advocate for teachers' rights.

Yesterday, I officially commissioned a new bus for Elwak Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) secured through my advocacy with the Ministry of Education, State Department for TVET. The flagging off of this bus provides the college's students with reliable transport for academic, sporting and other co-curricular activities. Parents had long expressed concern over students trekking between Elwak town and the college in the heat of the day as well as the security risks involved particularly for tutors and female students.

Garissa Airpot was a scene to marvel! This week, our public participation tour took us from Wilson Airport,Nairobi to Ileret (Marsabit), Mandera, Garissa, Lamu (Manda) and finally Kitui, all in two days. This would not have been possible without local public-use airports. I was really impressed when we landed at Garissa Airport. I was impressed because the last time I landed at the then Garissa airstrip was when it was a small murram runway field with overgrown bush all around it. The former grass field that turned into murram runway for small aircrafts has now become a national Airport- the Garissa Airport which will definitely turn into a driving force of the local economy in Garissa and in the region. This airport is now attracting investors and businesses seeking easy access while at same time creating jobs both directly and through new investment is also connecting Garissa community to the outside world and serve as a lifeline in emergencies including the expected El Niño floods and medical evacuations. I therefore call for grants to plan and develop public-use airports across the country to extend these benefits to smaller communities. Mandera County must wake up and smell the coffee! Mandera definitely needs an airport like Wajir and Garissa Counties!! #GarissaAirport #LocalAirports #RegionalDevelopment @KenyaAirports @HonAdenDuale @DekowMajor

Happy Mother’s Day! Contrary to popular belief, Islam has a special place for Women Mothers, and recognizes the multiple roles they play. Quran emphasizes equality of men and women: “I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female – you are equal to one another.” Qur’an, 3: 195 Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) has also emphasized on the high place of women when said: “Heaven lies beneath the feet of mothers”.

Culminating my visit to Takaba in Mandera County, I joined the community for the Billow Issack football tournament, where faith and sport came together in a powerful show of unity. I engaged with young players and spectators, urging the youth of Northern Kenya to take an active role in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 General Election. I also emphasized the importance of voter registration, calling on them to turn out in large numbers and make their voices count. Moreover, I rallied support for H.E President William Ruto, affirming that the administration's development agenda remains aligned with the aspirations of the region. To further nurture local talent, I pledged to provide kits for all participating teams, a commitment warmly received by organizers. The event was attended by the host Governor H.E Mohammed Khalif, Mandera Senator Hon Ali Roba, MPs Hon. Adan Haji (Mandera West), Hon. Ibrahim Haro (Mandera South), Hon. Ahmed Maalim (Banisa), former senators Mohammed Maalim and Billow Kerrow among other community, religious, industry and political leaders.

Resumption of debate on the Teachers Service Commission (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 27 of 2024). The mover, Hon. @abduhar called to reply. #BungeLiveNA.
Hon. @abduhar moves that the Teachers Service Commission (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 27 of 2024) be read a second time. The Bill seeks to amend the Teachers Service Commission No. 20 of 2012 in order to provide for various allowances that the Commission may pay to teachers over and above their basic pay. The Bill further seeks to entrench fairness in acting positions under the TSC so that the Commission confers acting appointments in a structured manner.
