"The kings go up and the kings go down, And who knows who shall rule; Next night a king may starve or sleep, But men and birds and beasts shall weep At the burial of a fool.

It continues to confuse me how people who profess a nigh-theological dedication to inevitability and trend-extrapolation can dedicate themselves so thoroughly to wailing and gnashing their teeth as the inevitable trends play out.

Darwinists who hate Darwinian fitness, tribal antitribalists shocked their tribalism can't compete, realpolitik-appreciators blindsided by actually-existing realpolitik. Lol. Lmao, even.

what's the term we should give to the human who a swarm of agents reports to? manager works but can get confused with the agent role of managing other agents, owner feels weird, etc

I would EMPHATICALLY rather be a stupid embarrassing loser.
tech startups are like men: they want you to call them evil, and if you want to hurt them you have to call them stupid embarrassing losers, not "evil"

Alcoholics with pseudonyms, even!

I’m honestly sick of pretending a bunch of alcoholics didn’t build this country from the ground up to begin with.

mfw Istanbaul rug merchants cajole me into their store, where I will merrily consume 2kg of biscuits and a gallon of tea, spending a grand total of 0 lira

Easiest thing to learn in any new language -- all you need are yes, no, counting numbers, and at least one exclamation of exaggerated shock. "Çocuklarım açlıktan ölecek!"

I am completely the opposite way; I will gleefully haggle for hours and buy nothing.
one of the craziest culture shocks I’ve had in Dubai is that I do NOT like being hawked at. nothing turned me away faster than a shopkeeper trying to get my attention. I immediately bristle like a cat and vow to never come back there again

Bathathon heled, im ú-cirath.
Many people make jokes about having poor/basic knowledge of another language using certain stock phrases. English speakers say in Spanish, “¿dónde está la biblioteca?” Portuguese speakers say in English, “the book is on the table.” Do you know any other phrases like this?
