The problem isn't that we replaced the old gatekeepers. It's that we rebuilt the same system with different people holding the keys. Art was supposed to be valued for creativity, originality, and vision not the size of a collector's wallet, the strength of someone's connections, or how much attention they can buy. But let's be honest discovery has never been completely free of gatekeepers.Algorithms, influencers, marketplaces, and paid promotion all shape what gets seen. Remove one barrier and another takes its place. The real solution isn't eliminating collectors or attention. It's building an ecosystem where artists can succeed without needing permission from either. Where the work speaks louder than the network, and talent has a chance regardless of who you know. If we're still measuring art by who's backing it instead of what it brings to the table, we haven't changed the system. We've just changed who's profiting from it.
