📣 COSYNE’23 Workshop Announcement 📣
📐+🧠 Dynamic geometrical transformations: Language of flexible brain computations
🕰 March 14, 2023, Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada

Could geometry could be the key to unlock human-like intelligence in AI? 📐🧠
@timbuschman, @Gautam_Reddy_N, & @AdelArdalan dive into how neural networks use geometry to help models understand the world instead of just pattern-match it. On our blog now: bit.ly/49COIw8

ALT On the left, the human brain represents the concept of a cat using a fluid, ring-like geometry, suggesting flexible, abstract generalization. A single cat icon floats nearby, enough for the brain to “get it”. On the right, the AI “brain” relies on raw data: a matrix of identical cat images and streams of binary code.
Devastating news 😢 She was, is and will be an inspiration and a guru for all who aspire to uphold the values of democracy and equity through our common struggle. 💔
Rest in power Jane McAlevey, The Nation's strikes correspondent, a dear friend to the mag, and a woman who fought tenaciously until the end. We're putting together a thread of some of Jane's best reporting. But we'll start with her obit, published today:

📢 Now in JoCN, with @postlelab team! Such a treat working with these amazing scientists from my alma mater. 🤩
1/n really excited about this one direct.mit.edu/jocn/article/… with @adelardalan and Xless labbies Quan and Jackie. RNN simulations of dual serial retrocuing task establish that the items are represented WM in orthogonal subspaces whose ranking ...

New preprint! @tafazolisina shows the brain builds complex tasks by compositionally combining simpler sub-task representations. By dynamically reusing neural subspaces for sensory inputs and motor actions, the brain can flexibly perform multiple tasks. 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

THE #sfn23 nanosymposium not to miss! 📐
📣 If you are attending the @SfNtweets meeting in DC, don’t miss our nanosymposium co-organized by @tafazolisina and myself on geometry of task representations in biological and artificial neural networks 📐+🧠
⏰ November 15, 2023, 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM, Room WCC 146C

Please fix this, @nytimes.
Wherein @nytimes does what it *Always. Fucking. Does.*: Gives the man a "Dr." title and does not give the woman -- who also has a very similar doctorate -- a "Dr." title.
Useful otherwise, aside from propagating inequality for women.

New preprint with @CamdenMacDowell on how information is passed from one brain region to another! We find interactions between brain regions are multiplexed, different dimensions of neural activity are shared with different cortex-wide networks of regions. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Thrilled to organize this workshop with Sina Tafazoli (@tafazolisina) and Tim Buschman (@timbuschman), with an exciting line-up of speakers:
Carina Curto, @RuneWBerg, @computingnature, @adric_dunn, Tatyana Sharpee, Francesca Mastrogiuseppe, @GabyMohamady, @lndriscoll
@naturecomputes, @leaduncker, @wjeffjohnston, @tafazolisina and your truly

Hope to see you all there!!!

Last Friday, @Princeton responded to our open letter signed by a majority of postdocs, raising salary minimums to 65k - an 18.5% increase! We celebrated by hand-delivering the letter because while this is a strong start, there's much more we can win. bit.ly/3Hf3E3P

CORRECTED: OPINION | In an Open Letter, the Princeton University Postdocs and Scholars (PUPS) call on Princeton to meet the demands of a previous letter, specifically highlighting the need to further raise the postdoc minimum salary.
