“And now we’re here to watch some ball and enjoy a couple domestics.”
I had an amazing conversation with my Uber driver in Akron.
Raymond was a slender, mustached man rocking aviator sunglasses and a navy blue Titleist visor with Firestone CC stitched on the side.
He picked me up in a black Lincoln Corsair Reserve and greeted me with a calm demeanor that oozed macho confidence.
We hit it off immediately.
“I have picked up more international tourists in the last couple months than I did in the previous several years combined,” he said.
I asked him why he thought that was.
“America is respected around the world again because of Trump,” he said while adjusting his sunglasses. “Nobody took us seriously under Biden.”
“So you credit President Trump?” I asked.
“People from every race, creed, and corner of the world are flocking to this country because the President has cleaned up crime in the cities,” he said, authoritatively. “I had a young couple from Mississauga in here last week. They said that the media is lying about Trump being unpopular in Canada. They admit that Lake Ontario is a terrible name for a lake.”
We pulled up to my hotel and he helped me unload my bags from his trunk.
“Where’s your next pickup, son?” I asked. “You’re the last one of the day, Mr. Ambassador,” he said, shaking my hand with a firm yet effortlessly casual grip.
I slapped him on the back and invited him to the hotel bar for an ice cold domestic on me.
We found a nice spot at the bar and ordered a few drinks. Within minutes, we found ourselves surrounded by a crowd of very attractive women who were in town for a bachelorette trip.
“What are you guys doing here tonight?” said Daniela, a tall fetching Colombian woman in a red dress.
“I just gave a major speech,” I replied back casually. “And now we’re here to watch some ball and enjoy a couple domestics.”
A shorter blonde girl named Dolce and a brunette named Esmeralda had now descended on us, offering to buy us cocktails.
We were the center of attention and it was becoming impossible to have a conversation with Raymond, let alone enjoy a beer and watch the game. Raymond was stoic, but I could tell his patience was waning as well.
I sat up straight and clapped aggressively to gather the attention of the ladies. Dolce’s cheeks turned red as they all quieted down and listened closely.
“Ladies, ladies,” I said sternly but with a twinkle in my eye. “I know we are magnetic, charismatic, devilishly handsome, and intellectually stimulating… But we’re trying to have a conversation here.”
I paused and looked each of them in the eye.
“How about you ladies take this,” I said with a sly grin as I slid my room key across the bar to Daniela. “I’ll make you a deal… you ladies can head upstairs and help yourself to anything in the mini bar. I’ve got an early flight tomorrow and some shirts that need ironing.”
They looked at each other and began to smile. Dolce playfully grabbed the key and handed it to Esmeralda.
“Deal,” she said. “Just don’t take too long, okay?”
I nodded my head and sent them on their way to the elevators.
Once the elevator doors had closed, I turned to Raymond.
“Want to get out of here?”
“I need confirmation bias” just say it
