What distinguishes the 1% from the merely affluent? How about having a third child.
New post on a topic I've long been fascinated by (the economics and financing of having a third kid) where I finally felt bold enough to go into the latest SCF microdata to get a good answer. /1
New in @AEA_Journals' American Economic Review: migration doesn't hollow out the home economy — it builds it up.
More than 75% of the long-run income gains from migration are domestic. The home economy itself grows.
Here's what we found: 🧵

Job posting!
The Education Data Center (EDC) is seeking a Data Analyst to support the development and maintenance of comprehensive, high-quality education datasets. This would be a great fit for anyone with Stata skills and experience with education-related datasets! To apply: zelma.ai/job-opportunities
Infant on lap? Don’t fly @Allegiant ! If you don’t have the infant’s birth certificate at the check in desk, they make you buy a whole new seat for your baby.
Reminder that the submission deadline for LACDEV (Liberal Arts College Development Conference- the nerdiest and chattiest dev conference out there) is April 14! #econtwitter

Come talk RCTs and DID estimators with us for a couple days, and bring your family to experience the joy of Oregon in August!
Hi #econtwitter
Has anyone applied to IRB to conduct a follow-up study by contacting former participants in an older (closed IRB) study? Even better if it was in developing country. I'd love to hear from you!

The roll-out of two new malaria vaccines is expected to save 180,000 children’s lives by 2030. But an additional 800,000 child deaths could be averted.💉
Ryan Duncombe, Karam Elabd & @JustinSandefur explore how to achieve an ambitious vaccine roll-out:

Sigh. Can your student be an influencer that all the @lewisandclark students follow? It seems that, despite my best efforts, we still get the “intro to capitalism” reputation instead of “intro to economics”

You can hear me on @NPR Up First and Morning Edition today talking about why mass deportations don’t lead to more jobs for US born workers *and* will likely increase prices on things like groceries.

A thought on why inflation didn't feel like a "big deal" to rich people:
We were buying fancy stuff, so when prices went up, we had the ability to adjust down in quality to maintain our overall spending level.
Poor people can't do that. They're already buying the cheap eggs.

I know it goes without saying at this point, but I’m always caught off guard by displays of just how much this country hates women.

I and twenty-two other Nobel economists signed a letter endorsing Kamala Harris for President.
We believe Harris's policies will result in a stronger economic performance, with economic growth that is more robust, more sustainable, and more equitable.
