Thank you @rachelegross and @nytimes for giving "pudendum" an opportunity to be discussed. This is so much bigger than my research -- it's an opportunity to fight for more equitable healthcare, together. #noshame nytimes.com/2021/09/21/scien…

Just finished our first *surgical anatomy bootcamp* with 100 MS2s about to enter their surgical clerkship. Anatomical knowledge is critical for all medical fields - thrilled to give students the opportunity for hands-on learning in such an important discipline.

Tomorrow I fly to the @ARCEquityinSTEM research workshop to discuss the use and impact of non-inclusive language in STEM. Doctors and patients - when has jargon/metaphors simplified vs. when have they obscured your intended meaning?

“Individual health exists in a social context” ~@ChicoFreedom 👏🏻👏🏻
For Christopher Garcia-Wilde, identifying social and public health issues is the beginning to design solutions for our local community. He shares his experience and takeaways as he counts down the days to #MatchDay2022. #MedCanes

I’ve spent the past few hours doing data entry for a breast cancer database. I had to stop when I found myself crying in the library over a woman that died less than a year after her diagnosis. She was young. No one deserves this. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

I’ve seen countless young #BreastCancer patients pursue fertility preservation. I’m currently in an OB/GYN Reproductive Endocrinology elective to learn more about this important option for my future patients. Normalize #interdisciplinary learning - our patients need it!!

If your SOM doesn’t have dissections anymore, how are they preparing you to be confident in your surgical anatomy knowledge?

YES! 👏 As a terrified MS3 that had not considered surgery before my surgery clerkship, I finally made the decision to switch when I asked myself: “What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?” Life is about chasing your joys, even the unexpected ones!! #GenSurgMatch2022 #ASEJC
I am still so astonished by the number of students who are discouraged from a career in surgery because they are women, want kids, are interested in research, are introverts, are "too quiet" etc... Here's my take. #MedEd #SurgParenting

Surgeons should be involved before day 1 of medical school, like with pre-med groups at colleges and at revisit weekends for med schools. Get research residents teaching in the cadaver labs. Make surgical exposure mandatory part of curriculum, not just an opt-in club #ASEJC
What practical steps can surgical educators and the surgical community at large take to combat negative perceptions of surgery and surgeons among incoming medical students? #ASEJC

A question for #twitterstorians: What happened between Basle Nomina Anatomica (1895) and the Jenaiensia Nomina Anatomica (1935)? The scrotum was labeled the regio pudendalis in the former (📷) but removed from the latter and every following revision. How was this decision made?

As a soon-to-be surgeon, I know my limitations. I published what I found to start the conversation. My “history of pudendum” has some big historical holes in it - but #twitterstorians are helping to fill the gaps. RTing @monicaMedHist’s recommendation for medieval anat. context.
Finally had time to read this, plus pieces in Clinical Anatomy. Is there any engagement w/ medieval anatomy, when many Latin terms were fixed? Aside from a passing ref. to Avicenna, not at all. Curious about the actual development of "shame" discourse? See academia.edu/18884355/Monica…
