Unless House Ds have radically changed their approach to impeachment and investigations, Garcia is bringing a party noisemaker to a gunfight. The last time Democrats ran House investigations, they undermined their subpoena authority (Court enforcement is a dead-end after the McGahn case), failed to move public opinion, and handed Trump two impeachment acquittals.
Incoming House Oversight Committee Chair, Robert Garcia, has been issuing statements telling Trump allies and staff, including incoming Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, to "lawyer up." He'd do well to tone down the rhetoric, manage expectations, develop a detailed plan, and have his Committee "lawyer up" with experienced, pragmatic investigators.

As possibly the only person in American politics less popular than Trump himself, it makes perfect sense. An autocrat's circle always grows smaller as ruthless loyalty out of complicity becomes the only relevant qualification.
Steven Miller's immigration policy has taken arguably the GOP's best issue and made it a liability. He, second only to Trump himself, is responsible for blowing up the multiracial coalition that elected Trump in 2024 and sparked the GOP's dream of a multiracial working class coalition. He's also probably the single most despised person in American politics. So of course, Trump appointed him Chief of Staff after getting humiliated at the polls. It's so perfect.
