The @CaolanReports and @KyivIndependent drama aside, fundraisers for Ukraine are struggling. A lot of them. I think we need to ask ourselves something. Are we actually doing our part regularly, or do we feel we’ve done our part because we donated at some point? That donation mattered. Of course it did. But the war is still going. Think about taxes. You pay every month. You pay when you buy things. You don’t pay once and expect your roads to be maintained forever. There are ongoing costs. Why do we think about supporting Ukraine so differently? Ukraine is defending Europe and the freedoms we all say we believe in. If you’re in this space because you want to help, please consider putting an amount aside every month. Whatever you can reasonably afford. Pick fundraisers you trust. Small amounts from enough people still make a difference. And please, you don’t need to reply listing everything you’ve donated. If you’re already contributing regularly, thank you. If you haven’t been, you can start now. Everyone’s circumstances are different. Just take a moment and honestly think about what you can do. Maybe we should start thinking of it as our defence tax. We’re not on the front line. We can at least budget to help those who are.
