People wielding great power & responsibility walk the corridors of #COP27.
When I walk the same corridors, what I see is a space of smoke and mirrors.
Today I asked leaders to be real & accountable.
Smoke and mirrors betray the people at the frontline of the climate crisis. – at South Sinai, Egypt

Can we all take a moment to recognize @plpilon’s incredible courage for talking openly about the elephant in the room—the human cost of accelerated transformation—and helping others to do the same?
This will save lives and careers.

One fundamental mistake software design teams make is behaving like they are the main character in their user's life story, and not the other way around.
Design as if your user
-didn't want to use your product or develop expertise
-hasn't thought about your product for months

I know I frequently talk about sacrifice and an ethical dedication to working in the public service but let me be clear: requiring any in-office work is a hard no for me. There will be a massive talent exodus from the IT side of the public service if this happens.

Question to all my fellow #GC public servants as we continue to navigate #FutureOfWork plans and how much of them will truly reflect today's future.
It's clear people want flexibility, but that definition remains loose.
If your org were to push in-person work would you:

Linear roadmaps are misleading without a crystal ball for seeing the future. A roadmap that recognizes the existence of risk as time goes on is more honest. But an effective PM needs to anticipate possible branches, too - and create clear criteria for following each path.

ALT Three roadmaps: Misleading roadmap (linear) - “We will follow this linear path from zero to our inevitable victory, and these are the milestones that will get us there.” Honest roadmap (conical) - “We know where we are today, and have a good idea about the near future, but recognize that the future becomes uncertain.” Strategic roadmap (diverging paths) - “We know where we are today, and anticipate decision points that will change our path. We are intentionally gathering the data that will help us make those decisions.”

Remember… it’s ok to take a #mentalhealth day.
As a #manager, I try to set this example & do just that! When you find yourself working overtime almost every day, it’s important to slow down & give yourself a chance to recharge. Listen to your body & mind. They go hand in hand.

In celebration of @gbla11yday, I tested these websites to start the #a11y conversation. @CDCgov and @GOVUK provide a commendable experience for people with disabilities and I’d like to thank them for their efforts on this day.

I'm going to share these along with some links to help you on your way.

Just a reminder that content isn't just text. It's also:
- images (photos, illustrations, infographics)
- audio visual content (videos, audio clips)
- buttons + links
- animations + gifs
- forms (labels, hint text, error messages)
- icons
- emojis
And the rest!
