AMBI is both thrilled and saddened to announce the well deserved retirement of long time faculty member, Wayne Shelton, PhD. Wayne Shelton, PhD, Professor of Bioethics, joined AMC in 1994 and has been a cornerstone of our bioethics department. He has shaped countless initiatives, including the Clinical Ethics Consultation Service, ethics education for medical students, the online Bioethics Graduate Program, the Bioethics Distinction Program for MD students, and the Better Doctoring virtual program. Wayne’s mentorship, wisdom, and kindness have touched every corner of the department, and he will be deeply missed. Wayne is not only a brilliant bioethicist but also generously shares his culinary talents, brightening our days with delicious treats. His guidance has helped faculty and students alike grow as scholars, teachers, and thoughtful practitioners of medicine. Beyond his professional impact, Wayne has been a friend, a confidant, and a source of warmth and humor, whether through long discussions, shared stories, or cat anecdotes.
