A month ago, I was permanently banned from DBD with the reason listed as “Exploits”: Abusing bugs or design errors to gain a competitive advantage. As it turned out later, there was a strange wave of bans right at the beginning of September—everyone had the same reason for their ban as I did. So what’s so strange about that? The fact that some people had their bans lifted three days after being banned—for no reason, without any response from support. Imagine this: you’re playing DBD, you get banned, and three days later, as if nothing happened, you’re simply unbanned without any explanation—just like that. In early September on Reddit that several posts were created here on Reddit, and they all described the same problem: players were banned for the same reason, and they all claim that the ban was accidental and that none of them used anything prohibited. Here are some examples of such bans reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/… and reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/… I have never used cheat software or exploited any other bugs, either in DBD or in any other games I've played. I submitted a request to have the ban lifted and waited for a response for almost a month. The reply I received stated that the ban had been imposed legitimately; it appeared to be an automated message. That same day, I created a document in Google Docs with my arguments and game recordings, since I record all my games. Half a day after sending it, I received the same response, which stated that the ban had been imposed lawfully. I’m concerned that my evidence may not have been reviewed, and I’m not sure if any human even looked at my case at all. This is especially upsetting considering the amount of time I’ve spent playing DBD—about 8,000 hours—and the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on in-game purchases. What else struck me about this whole story—the story of a guy who was banned in exactly the same way as I was, also a month ago, for the same reason, who waited almost a month, and then heard that the ban was justified, and then asked them to take another look at the Google Docs file where he provided evidence that he uses “Sprint Burst+Vigil” 99% of the time “Sprint Burst+Vigil” and not “Speedhack”—and they replied: “We’re lifting your ban and paying you compensation!!!!” This is just absurd—think about it: a guy banned for using his wits and in-game perks; they had no evidence of his guilt to begin with, the anti-cheat system found nothing in his game files, and the only thing that saved him was that he records his gameplay. And what are those who don’t do that supposed to do? In my case, even that didn’t help (though, as I’ve already said, I’m sure no one even looked at the recordings I provided as evidence). So, are people getting banned for no reason at all, just because of reports? If a player spends a lot of time in the game and frequently wins as the killer or survivor—and because of that, gets reported by weaker players—is that enough to ban the player permanently? However, I believe I have been affected by a mistaken ban, and I would like my case to be reviewed. I am also concerned that if frequent reports from other players can lead to permanent bans even when no prohibited software is found, players may not have a clear way to defend themselves. I'm not asking to be unbanned right here and now; I'm confident that I'm in the right and that the truth is on my side. I've never used cheats or exploited bugs.
