If your company refers to engineers as the IT department, you have nothing to worry about. You were already breached last week.

We built a $150M ARR business twice. The first time took 8 years. The second took 2.5. Today, Podium crossed $150M in AI annual recurring revenue. Three years ago, we already had a great software business. Well over $100M in revenue, tens of thousands of customers, and a product we'd spent nearly a decade building. And we decided to start over. The business was performing well. But we believed AI was going to fundamentally change the software industry and make much of traditional software obsolete. As a founder, you pour your life into what you're building. An insane amount of time, sacrifice, and effort. The hard part is not getting too attached to it. When we started building our first AI agents, we had to confront the possibility that much of what we'd built might not be that valuable in the future. That's a tough pill to swallow. But we also realized those same 10 years had put us in a unique position to take advantage of what AI could do for our customers. Instead of protecting what we'd spent a decade building, we decided to bet the future of the company on AI employees that actually do the work for our customers. We massively underestimated what we'd signed up for. We ended up building entirely new operating systems for the industries we serve, from the AI agents all the way down to the systems of record. Now customers run their entire businesses on Podium. Reinventing our product wasn't even the hardest part. We had to reinvent how the entire company operated. When you've been running a company for over a decade, the operational inertia is incredibly powerful. We had to rethink how we build products, how we sell, how we serve customers, and how we run the business. We effectively started a second startup inside an already successful company. And we're still at the very beginning. Today, we have 20,000 AI agents working for our customers. They've helped generate more than $13 billion in revenue for those businesses. And we're barely scratching the surface of what AI will be able to do for them. And we've done all of this while becoming profitable and generating free cash flow. We're building Podium to be around for decades. Huge credit to our team for having the guts to make this bet and the ability to actually pull it off. We still have a long way to go and tons of problems to solve, but it's so damn fun to be winning when the opportunity ahead is this big. In the age of AI, you can either disrupt your own company or wait for somebody else to do it. I'd rather do it ourselves.

Bob Costas was 18 when his father dropped dead at JFK airport. At the wake, a man handed him a thick envelope with $6,000 in $100 bills. It was everything his father left behind, and a bookie would never have paid it to a dead man. In the video below, he tells the story himself. His father, John, was a big-time gambler. Not casinos, not racetracks. Ball games. Bob says the mortgage was literally riding on his bets. When the games went the wrong way, he threw things, cursed and yelled. Bob’s mom and sister would leave. Bob stayed, because watching the games with his dad was the only way to be close to him. Friday, May 15, 1970. A cop knocks on the door. Before he says a word, Bob’s mother asks, “My husband’s dead, isn’t he?” John Costas had a heart attack walking through JFK. He was 42. At the wake, one of his gambling buddies walked in with the envelope. “Your father was up when he died. Give this to your mother.” A bookie never pays a dead man, so the friend went to the bookie himself and said John sent him to collect. Decades later, Bob Costas refused to read sports betting ads on air. Today the bookie lives in everyone’s phone. Is that progress?

I get annoyed with the constant online stereotyping of Americans as crazy loud, but I’m sitting waiting for a broadway show to start and I would like to remove the vocal cords of the family behind me. Just full volume yelling drink orders to someone 5’ away.

The Sociological Genius of Geographic Congregations McKay Coppins calls it "the sociological genius of Mormonism." Geographically assigned congregations where everyone has a job and no one has a paid minister. The result? You end up building relationships with people you'd never choose to associate with. Former federal judge Thomas B. Griffith says this is where Latter-day Saints learn the skills America desperately needs right now. Listen to the full episode on Deseret Voices.

A powerful message from @ChristoffDTodd on the moral, spiritual, and societal perils of gambling. I was grateful to hear him quote my recent story in @TheAtlantic, but mostly I was just grateful for his wisdom on what I think is an urgent issue.
"Gambling is morally wrong. Gambling is built on the desire to obtain something for nothing. Its structure requires that any gain comes at other's expense. It is hard to reconcile that with the commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves." —President D. Todd Christofferson (@ChristoffDTodd) #GeneralConference churchofjesuschrist.org/lear…

Once a month you should fast. Skip eating and drinking for two meals over 24hrs, then donate (at least) the money you would have spent on food to those in need. Understand a tiny bit of what the hungry and thirsty experience and then directly help them. Do it!

We have 18,000+ AI agents working for customers at @PodiumHQ. We built a system called Edge to make them better over time without asking every business owner to constantly coach their agent. Edge looks across millions of real conversations, finds places our agents could perform better, and lets us test changes against actual business outcomes. One of the best tests we've run was around objection handling. Edge changed how our agents respond when a customer pushes back on price, needs to think about it, or isn't ready to book. The new version increased conversion by 26%. More than 60,000 businesses and millions of conversations every week feed that learning loop. The more our agents work, the more we learn about what actually converts for our customers. More on Edge soon.

I tried to have my agent deal with a Regence health issue for me via the chat support. It said it detected it was AI and you couldn't do that. So I logged out and logged back in and handled it myself. Got booted and my account locked for AI.

Imagine how business models that rely on lack of agency, informational asymmetry, terrible service… will have to block AI or change to maintain their moat of 💩
