My advice to younger devs is to chase good companies that actually pay well. Migrate if you can, come back in a decade if you want, but maximize your earning potential from ages 23 to 40 and invest. It took me until I was 30+ to finally realize this vital mistake.
Your job is to make as much money as possible by any means necessary. Don’t box yourself into roles. Don’t identify with your job. Nobody cares if you’re a software/ai/cloud/anything engineer, your knowledge might be obsolete in a few months and you could get laid off next year, who knows.
Build multiple income sources. Skill up. Try to escape the rat race. Play the system. Cheat. Commit fraud. Lie on your resume. Whatever. You’re not winning this game by staying a good, obedient employee.

It's their job to gatekeep access into these roles, yes some are overzealous and don't even mention bias that's a different story, but most are just following a script set out by HR and leadership, I wouldn't be too harsh on them. Btw everyone's codebase is full of holes anyway.
