Very very well deserved - vital journalism carried out at great personal cost.
Very happy to have been shortlisted in the Specialist Journalism category in this year's British Journalism Awards for my investigation into Cambridge University professor Jason Arday and the extensive plagiarism in his PhD thesis #BJA2026

If YOU pay for a specific seat, you are entitled to it. If you want to claim a specific seat, reserve it and pay for it. How is this an issue?

To the guy who was also running to catch the train, saw me trip and fall on the platform, and actually turned around to come back for me instead of just carrying on with his life…
You pulled me up while yelling, “COME ON, BRO, WE CAN DO THIS!” and somehow managed to get us BOTH onto the train.
Bro, I don’t know your name, I don’t know where you were going, and I will probably never see you again, but please know that you have permanently altered my brain chemistry.
You could have kept running. You could have pretended you didn’t see me. Instead, you chose to become my personal motivational coach in the middle of a full-blown public transportation crisis.
I hope your pillow is always cold, your trains are always on time, your food is always delicious, and life gives you the same energy you gave me that day.
Because I swear, every time I’m struggling with something for the rest of my life, I will hear a random man screaming, “COME ON, BRO, WE CAN DO THIS!” directly into my soul.
I hope you know you’re an absolute legend. The world needs more people like you. ❤️😭

@pret this is a human rights issue for disabled people to have access to a toilet for health and medical needs, really grim your staff need less attitude and more training under the equality act you have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments

Beloved Harpo Marx d otd 1964. He still brings us such joy; what a face - the wonderfully expressive eyes, impish grin, the veering between ecstatic happiness and outraged indignation. And so lovely to hear his voice on the recently rediscovered recording of Peter and the Wolf!

This study is so deeply flawed that international IAQ experts have called for it to be retracted…
…but its flawed results are still being touted as supposed evidence that air filters don’t work.
As for that despicable image caption, words fail me 🤬
theconversation.com/air-filt…
This study should be retracted for a conclusion not supported by their own work:
❌Their claim: "HEPA filters don't work"
✅Claim actually supported by their study: "HEPA filters, sized much smaller than experts recommend, and not confirmed to be ON all the time, didn't provide a benefit"
Here's why:
HEPA FILTER SIZING
❌ they used a device with a CADR of <100 for the common area and <40 for bedroom
✅ To hit the air change target *minimum* where we would expect to see a benefit, you need CADR of 300 for every 500 sqft.
(I can't calculate air exchanges b/c they don't publish room sizes, just CADR, *which is an immediate tip-off that they don't know what they're doing*. The study is so deep on epi, so these folks are detail oriented, but the fact they leave out some basic building science is really telling. They also don't report on BASELINE HVAC PERFORMANCE AND FILTRATION?!?!?! WHAT?!?!
HEPA USE
❌ There were 5 filters in the communal area and they defined COMPLIANCE as 3 of 5 running (?!) and COMPLIANCE as filters being on at **20%** of the checks (?!)
✅ Um, for filtration devices to have any effect they...need to be turned on...
ALSO:
-"We have got one client which goes around and turns the one off that he sits nearest to"
-"a resident urinated in the air filter"
-"Interviewees reported that sometimes staff switched off or moved the HEPA filters"
-11% of residents had other HEPA filters (some were in the **control** arm...!)
MY BIGGER CONCERN:
This is 1 of at least 3 studies I know of that are coming out where the team has no apparent expertise on the air quality side of the house (plenty of MDs and epis...), that *under-sized* the filtration relative to what experts would recommend, and then don't confirm the air filtration was even running continuously, and then claim "they don't work"

Manche Namen lassen sich kaum voneinander trennen. Für mich gehören dazu Eichendorff und Schubert.
Vielleicht, weil beide dieselbe Sprache sprechen.

Meanwhile the government is directing funding to universities and labs (including Oxford projects and BBSRC-backed work on cultured meat and microbial oils) to scale up factory alternatives. That money could be supporting regenerative pasture systems, whole-animal utilisation and genuine local food security instead. We don’t actually need the current flood of ultra-processed products that rely on cheap industrial fats like palm oil (or the lab-grown “palm alternatives” being developed to replace it).
What we need is fewer of those goods, more local farming, and in the UK a shift toward more animals on permanent pasture rather than grain-heavy systems. Pay a proper price per animal, use the whole carcass — including the fat as lard and tallow!

Jim from Manchester perfectly sums up what’s wrong with the NHS. More money is important, but it’s only part of the solution. What the NHS desperately needs is competent leadership and effective management. Throwing more money at failure isn’t the answer!

I had 3-4 weeks off Twitter with autistic burnout recently & my engagement is right down (also due to standing up to a vile group of trolls on here-they reported me lots, restricting my reach). If you see this photo it would be so ace if you could RT it or drop me a quick hello if you have a moment, both of which help an account get back on track. I also hope these little violas ping some floral dopamine in your meat computer & give you a small lift 🌿
