Helen, you're so important to us, you're so admired by us and you're so loved by us. Here is my statement in the House of Representatives - an important opportunity to send our support to Helen and also thank the community members, first responders and everyone who stepped up and stepped in last Monday.

No stabbing - he simply spoke the truth. The stabbers - if there were any - were those closest that couldn’t bring themselves to do that.

It didn’t look a bit like sabotage to me. My take: Those closest to Joe Biden did him no favours by not offering him better counsel. Clooney was one of the few brave enough to speak the truth- as kindly & thoughtfully as anyone could have. That’s anything but sabotage.

NSW is likely to miss its emissions targets by a wide margin. The Net Zero Commission says coal mining is a large reason why. So does the Environment Protection Authority. Despite Minns’ insistence, there is ample evidence we can’t have both. smh.com.au/environment/clima…

When @newscorpaus’ official line is to either “woo or sue” tech CO’s (meaning they either license out their journalism, or sue those who steal it without paying), you might want to make sure you’re not “stealing” someone else’s work -as they did 7’s. smh.com.au/business/companie…

Sadly, many people feel emboldened (if that’s the right word) to write or say things anonymously, or using pseudonyms, that they would never write or say if they knew they could be identified. - Saul Eslake smh.com.au/national/i-believ…

Every Australian should listen to this interview with Chrystia Freeland former Canadian DPM: she talks about how Canada stood up to Trump in both his administrations. The choice is to be a vassal or have the strength to stand your ground as an equal. nytimes.com/2026/10/20/opini…

Big news - looks like immigration is falling sharpy, possibly/probably below the govt's target. That will spark some debate if we find NOM is under 1%pa in the next few qtrs
We've banged on about this for 6 months, but the slowdown in Australia's NOM has quickened since the latest available official data for the March quarter.

“This is the best, most reforming budget we’ve seen in many a long day. So I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t fly to the defence of brave Jim Chalmers against the tax-avoiders who aren’t short of a bob but do want to continue evading their moral…” smh.com.au/business/the-econ…
