ALT Clippings reading: "Mary A. Cleggett chose for her subject 1620-1876. The relation in which we stand toward one another, is that of brethren and neighbors. ‘Do unto others as you would that they should do unto you,’ is a great rule, but it is often forgotten. Slavery took deep root in free soil and prospered, until it seemed that God had forgotten his people. When freedom came what wonder that mistakes were made? This year we hold the Centennial celebration of American Independence. While we rejoice in our prosperity, we deplore the condition of our people at the South. Our duty now is to help one another; the future is with God."
