were you not there when they celebrated Google taking down the mass drive bc they thought it meant that Google agreed that ppl sharing fic through the drives was infringement of fic authors' copyright and not GOOGLE TAKING DOWN THE FIC BC IT'S POTENTIAL COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

I’m fuckin CRYING COPYRIGHT? Do they know theyre dancing in the line between legal and illegal writing those fanfics? 😭
you joke but this is every fic event and fanzine process these days 💀 no I'm not submitting a portfolio of my work it's a fanzine not a MFA course

You must give your governmental id, an iris scan and publish one good fic to get in, the fic will be judged by a panel of literature professor and three editors for times

mandatory comments is a toll booth staffed by one very emotional goblin
Still thinking about the concept of fic writers going on strike to advocate for better conditions for writers on AO3, and wondering what their demands would be. Mandatory comments? Kudos paywalls?
Also imagine the meeting with an OTW rep.
Union rep: We have removed our fic from AO3. We won't reupload it unless you do [X].
OTW rep: Cool. You can set up your own archive and implement all those policies. Our code is open source and we can ask a tech volunteer to help you out.
80% of current ao3 discourse is just the "well, that's it for tonight, folks! as ever, the next chapter will appear once we reach 50 reviews on this one, so you know what to do :)!" type of fic writer being Mad but variously framed as either a labour or a copyright dispute
begging everyone to learn that terms like "distribution", "publication", "permission" and "consent" are legal terms with a clear meaning and the law doesn't change based on what YOU think these terms mean

Saying there's tone of cases but blocking immediately after because in all those cases the derivative work lost ..

Just saw a video about the language spoken in auvergne in the 1700s and the fact that it's now a dead language so there's probably no one still alive that can speak Lestat's first language with him😔😔😔

Can I just say, fanfic authors from pre pandemic and earlier literally Do Not Give A Fuck.™
Younger/newer authors gameify fanfics because "boohoo statistics, boohoo my kudos". Older gens know writing is for the love of the game who the FUCK cares about your stats.

“I was being HUNTED” and it’s just Lestat hanging out with him on a bench passing him a little note that says “I like you do you like me circle yes / no”

yes! like… if you’re going to accuse people of hoarding fics because they made use of the download button, then you have to get off ao3 because that site is essentially “fic hoarding” central! there’s fics in my fandom from 2004 on there, posted originally on other sites.
Am I meant to respect the grind here or are you the kind of person who feels "locked out of the community" but only interacts with other fans in the ao3 comment section of their own fic and thinks community should happen there
like man this is one of the saddest things I have read in all this. You don't need to "grind" for years in order to make friends in a shared hobby!
