There is only one surviving red phone box in the former Borough of Stoke Newington; a 96-year-old K2 model located outside 281 Green Lanes. It was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, whose grandfather, George Gilbert Scott, designed St Mary’s New Church in 1855, and whose uncle, John Oldrid Scott, designed the church’s steeple in 1890.

An overlay of the plans of the old and new Red Lion pub in Stoke Newington Church Street, which was rebuilt in 1924 due to road widening on Lordship Road and Church Street to accommodate an increase in vehicle traffic. As a result, the new pub was smaller.
Come and hear all about the history of one of Stoke Newington’s oldest pubs on 8th September, where I’ll be giving a talk about the Red Lion as part of ‘Red Lion Fest,’ celebrating 100 years since the current pub building was constructed on the site of the 17th-century Red Lion.

'The Spiritist Faustinus' (1906)
A 'séance' featuring a medium and two ‘spirits’, shot in Peter Elfelt’s studio. Dr Faustinus (Faustinus Edelberg Pedersen), after whom the film is named, was an active figure within the field of spiritism and the occult.

Stoke Newington Municipal Buildings (Town Hall and Assembly Hall). Designed by J. Reginald Truelove. Built 1935-7 on the site of 8 grand houses from 1700. Mostly empty now with some space occupied by Hackney's CCTV control room and Civil Protection Service. The former council chamber is a wedding venue.
