Not a formal apology I believe. Both the UN Declaration A/RES/80/250 and the CARICOM Ten-Point Plan for Reparatory Justice demand official, full, and formal apology from former enslaving nations. Acknowledging the impact of it isn't an apology. King Charles missed an excellent opportunity to formally apologize for UK’s role in establishing, sustaining, and expanding transatlantic slavery.
King Charles III has acknowledged the transatlantic slave trade as a shameful chapter in history, expressing sorrow over its lasting impact and calling for Commonwealth nations to learn from the past and work together to address its consequences. #CHOGM26

STATEMENT BY GHANA’S PERMANENT MISSION TO THE UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK ON SECOND GHANAIAN MURDER VICTIM IN NEW YORK, IN A WEEK New York, USA, 4th November 2026: On the directive of the Head of Mission, Ambassador and Permanent Representative Samuel Yao Kumah, officials of Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, led by Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor and Consul-General Anthony El-Adas, today visited the family of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu, whose tragic death under yet-unexplained circumstances was announced to his mother, Mavis, on Saturday, 31st October by New York City Police. The Mission team conveyed the condolences of the Government of Ghana to the bereaved family. The bereavement visit was undertaken on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who phoned in, and expressed heartfelt condolences, support, and solidarity of President Mahama and the Government of Ghana with Madam Mavis and her family. “I have been shocked and saddened by this tragic news, especially coming on the heels of the horrible news of the killing of 15-year-old Javits, also in the Bronx, New York,” the minister said. He assured the bereaved family that the Government of Ghana stands firmly with them and will work with the relevant authorities and agencies of the United States Government to ensure that justice is served. Joseph Owusu, a 24-year-old Ghanaian worked as a caregiver, supporting persons with disabilities. He also served as a chorister at his local Methodist church. He is remembered by the family as a beloved son and brother, and his tragic loss has left his family and community devastated. His brother, Kwadwo, called strongly for justice for Joseph, through a thorough and transparent investigation to be conducted by the police into the circumstances surrounding his death and for those responsible to be brought to justice. Police have indicated to the family that an autopsy is being conducted on the body of the late Joseph Owusu, as their investigations continue into the crime. END

‘Nkrumah not only had a clear simple message - S-G Now - but he touched a deep fundamental chord in all the people. He offered dignity, self-confidence and self-respect to every African man and woman; he gave the young men the chance to kick over their frustrations with a vision of a new democratic society in which an elected council would replace the chiefs and their elders; he gave women the chance to play a full part in a new society. Above all, he gave confidence to the people to challenge the age-old superiority and arrogance of the white man and his racist attitude. He gave the African the confidence to show the world what the African could achieve. It was this wave of enthusiasm and anger which swept him to power and swept the elite and outmoded UGCC to one side. Their fears about hooligans, communists and veranda boys made no impact on the triumphal progress of the CPP.’ Rooney, David. Kwame Nkrumah: Vision and Tragedy. Sub-Saharan Publishers, 2007, p. 77.

1. I have just seen the Minority position rejecting the Government’s decision to explore BRIC’s partnership. 2. This reminded of something. Many years ago when I used to work in DC, i was part somewhat of the Washington bubble. 3. Apart from the legal work, I was part of the Africa practice Group, which was focused on business development on the continent. It was in the course of that work that I first met Alan Kyerematen. And also Simon Madjie. 4. That practice was throughly eccletic. When Nigeria imposed huge tax bill on MTN; we brought in Eric Holder, former Attorney-General under Obama and then Partner at our firm, to go to Nigeria to negotiate the issue with the Nigerian Government. 5. When the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement–Second Revolution (SLM-SR) were negotiating the peace agreement in Doha, Qatar, based on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD); we were there. 6. When a Ukrainian business wanted to supply chicken to the whole of west Africa, we were there. When American businesses were being investigated for Foreign Corrupt Practices in Africa; that practice was there. 7. Even though it was a practice in a law firm, that practice grope was headed by Witney Schneidman, a former undersecretary of state for Africa at the State Department Under Clinton I think. He was a non lawyer. 8. Anyway, one thing everyone marvelled about in Washington was how extremely bi-partisan Foreign Relations Committee in Congress; and in particular the Africa subcommittee was. It was the only Commitee where both Democrats and Republicans were the most aligned. 9. Americans read from same script when pursuing their foreign interests. They were divided at home for sure. On many issues they were. But when it came to American strategic interests abroad, they read from the same script, don’t be fooled. When Trump says America must get Greenland; best believe everyone on that Foreign Relations Committee are holding meetings and briefings behind the scene how to secure that deal. When Americans go into Venezuela, the others may be fighting and disagreeing publicly. Not the Foreign Relations folk. They are getting briefings about how much strategic oil reserves American companies can procure. 10. Come to Ghana. Government rescues Ghanaians in South Africa, the minority will come out and say no. Ghana says we need a seat in the Security Council, the minority will say we don’t need any chair. Government says we need to recover our mines for Ghanaians, and nationalize our strategic assets, minority will release a statement saying we disagree. 11. Partisanship cannot never take a break in Ghana. Except on one thing alone. Increasing MPs ex gratia. Allah, everyone make study. United as bob marley and wee. Oman waɛ! Shalom

❗️ BREAKING: Attackers hijacked the .gh, .sl and .as domain registries of Ghana, Sierra Leone and American Samoa, rewrote their DNS records and got legitimate certificate authorities to issue HTTPS certificates for major global brands and several of Google's own domains. Chrome is blocking most of the certificates.

Africa still has no permanent seat on the Security Council. A 21st century Security Council without permanent African representation is unjust & indefensible. We must reform the Council so that it reflects today’s world with the legitimacy and effectiveness that today’s challenges demand.
