The tech industry broadly no longer looks to make the everyday persons life better they are mainly focused on making companies richer, see the concentration of capital focused on the enterprise

I am excited to announce the launch of Tech This Week, Africa’s live technology show —covering the biggest news in tech and business!
African tech is shaping everyday life far beyond the tech ecosystem – sports, culture, and entertainment.
The conversations should reach just as far, and livestreaming is the next evolution.
Tech This Week will premiere on my X, LinkedIn and YouTube today at 6pm WAT — from Lagos, the startup capital of the continent.
Thanks for your interest in tech ✨

nigerian billionaires, if you’re serious about industrializing nigeria, invest heavily in local talent too.
you can build all the factories, energy companies, banks and infrastructure you want, but eventually you need engineers, scientists, researchers, operators and managers who can actually run, improve and reinvent those industries. you can’t keep fighting over the same tiny pool of talent forever or be bringing in expatriates to fix our local problems forever.
you don’t need to start another university from scratch. our best universities are painfully underfunded, and i genuinely think we need to start treating them as industrial infrastructure. imagine $1b strategically spread across selected regional universities in nigeria for labs, research, engineering facilities, faculty, scholarships, commercialization and strong industry partnerships.
and i say regional universities deliberately because young talents shouldn’t have to travel far across regions to access quality education.
industrialization isn’t just about building companies. andrew carnegie was one of the defining industrialists of america’s industrial era, but part of his legacy was also investing in the institutions that would produce future talent. the school he founded eventually became carnegie mellon, which today is one of america’s strongest universities in computer science, engineering and ai, producing talent for firms like openai, citadel and others. y’all need to start building institutions that will keep producing the people capable of sustaining and reinventing the companies you build long after you’re gone.

Please be a student of your industry, whatever that is. Its history, present & future.
If you’re passionate about something, you should be genuinely curious about it.

Real Business in a vc-starved period: You raise $200k, You invest $200k on assets, you borrow $200k, you make money you return $200k or a part of it, you still have $200k and growing assets.
Startups in a vc-starved period: you raise $200k, you spend $200k, you make $200k or a part of it. Your balance is $20k or less. You die eventually.
We need to rejig the math.

So the strategy now for African Series A+ VC funds is to buy secondaries in order to concentrate into "de-risked winners?"
With nine-figure funds and in markets with lower terminal values? Really?
If we're talking about global late-stage venture sure, but this is massively underestimating concentration risk at African venture A/B.
Why would strong early-stage founders want to be surrounded by investors who are optimizing for downside reduction? This is private equity underwriting with venture-level risk.
There's no replacement for conviction this early (and Series A is early). I predict the power law in venture continues to prevail.
Africa’s early-stage startups are getting left behind as venture capital firms increasingly prioritize backing proven companies over riskier young ventures
