On 1st July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the British Army suffered the greatest loss of life in its history.
Communities across the UK and the Commonwealth felt the impact. From towns and villages at home, men were drawn into the Sommeβs killing fields β many never to return.
Our latest blog tells the story of that first day through the lives of six Commonwealth servicemen who died during the battle.

Today, we remember the sacrifices made by all those involved in the D-Day landings.
On this day 80 years ago, more than 5,000 ships and landing craft delivered 150,000 troops to five beaches in Normandy. 4,440 Allied soldiers lost their lives on D-Day - the first day of Operation Overlord, which ultimately brought about the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe.
