Ive been on Roblox developing games for ages.. (10 years to be exact)
Genuinely never been this hard to get a game out there for the players.
Before you coule just hope people would find a way naturally to play it, nowdays Roblox made it impossible.

Old Roblox:
make game
publish game
compete
New Roblox:
get money
meet requirements
prove engagement
maybe publish to the audience you actually made it for
then compete.

been in a weird headspace recently. coding is and has always been something i'm passionate about. but making games on roblox hasn't been as fulfilling as it once was lately
kreek sums it up pretty much perfectly. the overly corporate direction that roblox has turned in where making games has become more about acquisitions and the algorithm has put a lot of people off making cool games. that combined with their stupid decisions on community features such as avatars and events, and the lack of incentive to make high quality games, has led to a lot of long-time roblox players losing their passion for the thing they loved
as much as i've given the corporate acquisition giants on roblox like dobig a lot of hate because I do feel they contribute negatively to the platform, I still feel that roblox is mostly to blame for the change in culture on the platform. especially because they have instilled a mindset in devs where we have to care about stats and algorithms for our games to become successful. what happened to the platform that was "powering imagination"?
for the past few years, every year going into RDC it makes me wonder if i can even see roblox as a long-term career. i've been fortunate to make a lot of money off the platform but it still doesn't bring me the joy that it once did
the fact that it feels impossible to compete with the giant studios and the algorithm makes it hard to imagine a world where games that have the level of passion, creativity and innovation of Jailbreak, Piggy and DOORS will continue to be released going forward. those were the games that excited me as a developer because there were new standards and challenges to face. now the challenge is how to make a brainrot keyboard clicker game - that's not interesting to me 😭
i appreciate the people who have discussed this with me personally or on their own accounts. this is really my take on it all 🤷♂️
The top Roblox devs in the world are 19-year-olds (I'm friends with one who made $10M last year)
The last 2 years I made Roblox games as a side quest, got 100 million plays, and ended up at the invite-only developers conference with all the top devs
Every week I'd see a new corporate company show up on the platform, spend hundreds of thousands on a game, and totally fail.
These kids went on to make millions a month.
The difference was stupid simple: they were having fun and the suits were having meetings.
Lesson: have more fun
the amount of fake Roblox “developers” flexing their CCUs for games they don’t even own or don’t exist is insane, making the timeline so boring… 🥱

We asked @newfissy, Owner of @PlayAdoptMe on Roblox, for his best advice 👇

this has indeed killed my game, we had over 10k players just this month and still don’t meet the requirements
the game has been only in decline since the change and we went from around 35k monthly players down to 10k
what a shame for Roblox to push poorly designed changes 🤷♂️
Replying to @KreekCraft
I have over 34 thousand players on my tycoon game in the past month, while only reaching the required limit by half.
My game is at over 600K visits without a single moderation issue in the past, what else do they need to be confident it’s safe…
This will KILL all indie games.
Update:
It’s been 2 weeks, the game is now at 167k visits.
I have spent $995 on ads
It JUST now reached 500 highly engaged users
The metrics (other than PCVR) are overall pretty good, yet we’re still seeing a max of 500 home impressions per hour. Something weird has to be going on.
Here’s what I’ve taken away from this:
- Seemingly no, you cannot just buy your way to the 500 highly engaged users
- Roblox seems to care a LOT about monetization metrics right now
- Don’t spend $995 on ads, I purely did it as a test
- As of now, having less than the 500 highly engaged users only means users under 16 in these countries cannot play: New Zealand, Netherlands, Australia, and Indonesia
For one of our brand new games we just launched I have spent $370 on ads and we only have 70 out of 500, despite having 30k+ visits.
The average dev is genuinely cooked 💀
