San Diego, we as a people have got to stop using "we were the only team to challenge the Brewers in the postseason" as a way to cope/validation. It doesn't add to this franchise's history at all and starkly reminds us that we've always been the bridesmaid, never the bride.

"Just move Slater to guard". No. Here's why.
Slater's $114M extension was negotiated around his value as an elite LT. Moving him inside doesn't change what the Chargers owe him, but it potentially damages his future earning power. Even with his injury history, why would he willingly surrender the OT pay ceiling instead of betting on himself getting healthy?
His agent has every reason to fight that move. Now you've potentially got a player-team standoff, NFLPA involvement, and possibly a grievance if there are contractual grounds. All to solve a problem the Chargers don't need to create.
And what's the upside? Zero cap savings. You're paying elite tackle money for a guard while creating a vacancy at RT that everyone want to fill with Burke. Burke’s allowed an 8.5% pressure rate and ranks 66th of 71 tackles in pass blocking. I like his upside, but calling him a starting-caliber RT is premature.
Having two premium tackles is a luxury most teams would love to have. Why jeopardize that, risk alienating one of your franchise players, and create another roster problem?
Fix the interior OL without dismantling your biggest strength.
